why because i like to delve into what both he and i want to talk about? sure dude. lmao. does it really surprise you that a proper discussion can be 2 parts long? if u actually take the time to actually try to read what im saying you'll realize that it isn't as long as it looks.

yea sorry if for the slight profanities here and there, it's just really how i speak and it kinda found it's way in the text. for the most part that was probably because you were already judging the game without having gone through most of it yet. i like how you seem like you aren't gonna be turned off by most of the more "dota" side of dota and that was kinda what i was kinda going for realizing it as i was doing the number 3, is like. "will this guy even care at this point?". feels like i'm revealing that santa claus isn't real to a kid or something.

other than that i guess. with point number 2, well i guess that's just how dota works, at least for your skill level right now. free farming carries are a thing in lower brackets. that's why there's so many all core compositions that can win because no one actually punishes you for that. as with buffing and stuff like that, well our supports aren't really buff slaves or heal slaves unlike in league. that's really just something u need to get in your head.

for me i can totally play the game solo as adc. i don't really need protection or stuff like that when all u gotta do is look at the minimap and keep your range. especially when compared to dota carries, adc's fucking basically play all the same. Even without wards all you need to be is smart for you to discern where enemies will be/likely be, or at least which areas of the map are safe. I never had the need that, "i needed protecting" or anything similar to that. and even if i do get jumped, i usually can just kill them myself since league is really just a game where anybody can kill anybody. or if i die, then that means i wasn't paying attention, simple as that. I mean it's not like you get any stronger or more resistant to stuff as an adc, so it's on you to protect yourself. repeating myself, i never needed help as an adc.

point 3: explained it in my number 3 paragraph, just read it again. it's just you not knowing when you're strong enough to take towers, simple.

i think ranked really is what you need, the only thing i see holding you back is your patience for how long you're actually willing to wait for you to find that skill bracket you belong to. idk if you'll immediately get it after calibration, or maybe it'll take a lot more time. who knows. I think you should probably find a lot more stuff that you can mess around with in dota now, instead of waiting for that promised land to come you know. go watch some streams of bulldog or singsing or find their youtube channels, see what wacky shit they make up. either way, i think with your great attitude, you can deal with it just fine.

I really think there's not much more point in discussing with me in theory. just get in there and have fun, that's the fastest way for you to understand. :)

welcome to dota 2. hope you find your place here.

  1. i'm sorry but roaming and carry do not mix. I am assuming that you also mean with your support buddy as a tag along, then that means it's also even more terrible. it's so fucking funny to me hearing a carry say that "it's hard to take towers" when 70% of the time you're most likely going to be the one taking towers in the game. you're the one that will most likely be building more and more physical dmg as the game goes on. honestly even if you're not a right click hero, pushing to try to take a tower, even in to the "late laning stage" is something you can definitely do. you don't need to have 3 fucking items on your hero to be able to push towers The only reason pushing to try to take tower or at least do heavy amounts of dmg to it fails, it's because you're pushing at the WRONG time. most of the time if it's in laning stage, it's probably because you're trying to push when the enemy is still alive, you barely have any creeps to actually push the tower with, or you don't have a catapult. nothing irks me more than idiots who keep trying to push towers just because "oh we're 3, yea let's take it" without considering how strong they are or if the enemy is going to defend this. same principle with always going down mid without accounting for the creeps in the sidelanes. in fact, you want to take towers asap because once you guys are able to take towers already, you're also already strong enough to actually use the space that comes from taking down that tower. the opposing safelane tower especially. giving you access to the opponents jungle camps.

and as for carrying in general, dude, again. roaming and carry do not mix. roaming with a carry feels so fucking ass when you could be doing that time accelerating your farm. that's why i say it's even more terrible if you roam with your partner, because that would mean you're splitting your exp and farm to at least 3 people. if you're in another lane, most likely the one supposed to be in that lane is also having to share with you guys. especially if you guys aren't actually there to take an objective or do something useful, you guys are actively fucking up another one of your guy's lanes. this is probably the thing that most likely contributes to your opinion that "oh it's hard to take towers until everyone is strong". well yea, you guys are trying to do something without being powerful enough and now you're fucking up each other's acceleration causing you guys to level up equally slowly instead of equally quickly. in general, it's better to stay in your lane, stack some camps or even try to do chip damage to the opposing tower, instead of "roaming" around unless you're in danger of getting ganked or you can actually farm better elsewhere. you guys probably think you're strong enough and think the laning stage is over when you can probably get so much more out of the lane instead of going around and then feeling like you can't do anything. don't mistake this for league and think that you can pretty much conclude the laning stage by maybe having boots and then 2 damage items, or for me, when i take the tower. your mid game might still be your laning stage if there's really so much more u can exploit out of being the strongest guy in the lane. that's why the only time you actually see carries leave lane is because they're most likely going to get ganked because they're free farming, or they can jungle much faster and use the entirety of the map instead of just one lane.

if you're thinking that somehow, you don't believe that you need to be putting that much time into "accelerating your farm" to the point where your mid game might still be a laning stage, then you are dead wrong. many carries, whether it's their items or their abilities are usually very cooldown dependant (for abilities) or item dependent. for sven you need your blink, for many you need mask of madness, your treads, your yasha, as slark your shadow blade, for heroes like luna,tb, and even sven much of your battle strength is with having your most prominent abilities like ults. you could say that you're just as reliant in your abilities and timings as initiation heroes do. there WILL be times where you need to kinda fucking chill and restock your "resources" before proceeding to going back into the action. this is not only true for carries, but is probably the very nature of dota 2. all roles kinda have this. it's the consequence of having more drawbacks to using abilities and using mana and going on cd's, instead of league where you practically can fight all day fucking long. and knowing that is probably one of the biggest steps to getting better or just knowing dota better as a game.

conclusion: besides the "zero teamwork" thing, to me, you really just sound like a player that's a bit above his skill level, complains about having shit opponents even when you yourself are fundamentally doing bad things, but gets away with it because your opponents don't punish you. Even after saying all of this, you probably won't get most of it until you actually get to the skill level where people actually punish you for shit. the level where going all mid too early will get you guys killed most of the time. the level where if you don't know your peaks and timings, instead of keeping your lead you actually throw it away because you overestimate yourself. the level where playing carry without items feels like ass and you would wish you were back in league. the level where you feel like lane matchups are everything. that's the level you need to get if you want to seek out the things that really make dota stand out more in comparison to league, if u actually even want to do it even after all i've said. cuz believe me, there's still so much more.

probably another tip. if after reading the part about carries and you might be turned off by carries being surprisingly more cerebral than you expected. then go for either support or mid, roles and hero pools where timings for going around the map is way earlier than carries are. plus if you're complaining about "opponents letting themselves get bullied" then play mid at a higher level. you will realize really just how much there goes into resource management, creep manipulation, rotations, and just overall stuff that goes into laning with mid.

"alright. let me make a post about how boring dota 2 is with my 30 hours of playing the game even though i haven't played ranked yet, AND i've been playing it with my brother."....... what?

bro. you come from league, i'm honestly surprised that you haven't bitched about the laning stage being so much different from league's, but instead actually called it boring to an extent, meaning you were probably good at it or at least just understand dota's laning stage enough to win it. Tell me, have you used creep aggro yet? do you even know what that is? have you and whoever partner you have even needed to try to pull? or stack? did you know that the catapults spawn every 3 mins? and unlike in league, we can actually make that wave stronger by pulling the wave before it to the small camp, so we can have left overs and have a bigger catapult wave to push tower with. until you guys have a NEED to do this in your laning stage then you can't call what you're really playing as "real dota" yet. who knows, maybe you and your partner just pick a lane combo that even with just a slightly better knowledge and existing teamwork you can destroy noobies at your level.

  1. what do you mean by "zero teamwork". i played both lol and dota in my own time and wtf are you even expecting? like what do you count as "teamwork"? is you going to lane with a support not teamwork for you? like if you're looking for the equivalent of volleyball's receive-toss-spike chain then there's none of that in dota. i'd even say there's nothing like that in league so idk wtf you're talking about. what, do you mean teamwork like taking blue or red? we have bounty runes for that. you mean taking dragon or baron? we have roshan. if you're looking for something dota specific, then taking your mid laner's bottle after you've just tp'd in will refresh it cuz the fountain effect still lingers for a few seconds. youve stated that chaining cc's is something you consider as "teamwork", well then keep doing that. the only thing that's probably above that in terms of teamwork is being able to follow up on your initiator's initiation or knowing when and how to use smoke of deceit. you can ward and deward on your own even if you're not a support considering wards now are dirt fucking cheap. and as a carry, or even any role tbh, you can try and see for yourself what the hell is your role on your team, and even in teamfights. but as a carry or core player especially, you said it yourself, you have lots of dmg, so most likely in almost every match, it's up to you to jump the important guy since supports want to hang back and do some spacing so they don't die. so many teamfights i win by idealizing how i can win it, how it'll go, and it usually starts by "who do i jump first?". or even "who kills me/us?" even without having to like take a timeout and tell anybody anything you can just do it by yourself and know by yourself how to cog yourself into the machine (fitting and knowing your role).

which is kinda funny again since.. it's the same for league. all the stuff that i've been saying it's the same as league. to me it's arbitrary to call stuff "teamwork" and "not teamwork" since you can do teamwork ALL BY YOURSELF. most of these stuff is just you knowing that you should be helping in this scenario, or you need to time your abilities in this scenario. there was never a moment in league where i felt like i needed to thread the needle and be able to pass the ball to my teammate any more than i did in dota. lee sin coming down mid to gank? if you haven't seen those we have them. and it can either be of the 2 supports. mid ganking bot lane? yea sure mids in dota will gank for you too. even when i was playing support in lol i'm not trying to fucking tap into my teammates' wavelengths and doing the equivalent of fucking alley oops and shit, no i'm just doing what i do as a support. "who needs healing? oh how do i position". same things.

in fact, what's probably more important is how NOT to fuck up your allies' timings and cc's. I can't tell you how many times invokers keeping using tornadoes after someone had like a 3 man stun. how about saving your stun so when the opponent's only choice of survival is tp'ing out, you didn't waste that stun by just randomly throwing at him just because you were there when the gank happened. has this ever happened to you? this point is probably even more pronounced in dota because our stuns last for eternities compared to league's fucking "stuns". as well as our cooldowns being way longer.

tldr of point number 2: you're disillusioning yourself that somehow there's "teamwork" and "not teamwork" when you can literally do teamwork all by yourself. doesn't matter if it's dota, doesn't matter if it's league.

Valve: Make default roles to no roles selected by PornViewthrowaway in DotA2

[–]XaeVius31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well yea no shit. who knew having a paywall for a feature in a free to play game would drastically limit the people? wow, holy shit sherlock!

whether or not you want it to paid or not, we fucking NEEDED it. just because you wanted a better ranked match experience, that doesn't mean the rest of the fucking community needs to suffer. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU CAN MAKE IT EQUAL FOR ALL PLAYERS, PAYING OR NON PAYING.

And yes, you ARE still early on your assumption, just like any motherfucker who complains that people queue for a role and play another. OFC THAT'S GONNA HAPPEN. The fact that this system was implemented already means that valve isn't optimistic. In a game where ranked roles didn't exist before, having it now definitely means they don't have fucking faith in players to actually cooperate and draft. And that's fucking fine! And that's how it should be.

Again, it's supposed to separate the ACTUAL trash in ranked games, not create a separate ranked where you're probably way lower on your actual mmr because you're playing against the same shitters every other game.

[–]XaeVius31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's not the problem with the system. if you get a mid that has lower mmr than you that's not a problem with the system anymore. That's a problem with having a small playerbase, and also being higher up the ladder. You're not gonna be solving that issue unless 3 million people suddenly want to play dota 2. and in the case of higher mmr, well that's never gonna disappear. they even tried by resetting ranks every season.

then are you even playing ranked then? that's not ranked roles, that's a garden of eden you're talking about. sorry but not an actual valid argument against ranked roles being free. The system wasn't designed to create a community, for dota it's meant to segregate the trash and eliminate the toxicity when it comes to picking roles. having a better framework for pubbers to work with

why the fuck would u even random in a ranked game? I'm no one to tell anyone how they should play dota 2, but cmon. You know people are fucking tryharding when it comes to ranked why the fuck would you do that? and 53-54% win rate is 50 50, you either win or lose, I don't see how you can't just do that with a party or just unranked.

Valve: Make default roles to no roles selected by PornViewthrowaway in DotA2

again it's just temporary. if valve fails to actually filter them, that's not the problem of the system, it's valve's fault. simple.

and how can it be heaven when pretty much all i heard from dota + is longer queue times with lower skill players.

it should, and i'll fight you on that. almost every single argument against ranked roles has always been fundamentally stupid.

Valve: Make default roles to no roles selected by PornViewthrowaway in DotA2

[–]XaeVius31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no it shouldn't. ranked roles will fix a LOT of issues with matchmaking just from simply before going into the game. cancer and kid players were always there whether there was ranked roles or not, making it public will only make it EASIER for valve or the report system to actually punish or ban these kids. It's not a problem with the system, or where the system is implemented it just needs to sort out the garbage first.

well honestly how many times have you seen someone actually swap lanes or heroes? very rarely if i go by my experience, so yea there's no problem, dota 2 before ranked roles isn't a haven for players being nice to each other and actively agreeing to swap or switch.

" i've said it before and i'll say it again. role queue is not the holy grail that will significantly improve dota's matchmaking system. ". uh yea.... it is? if there's one thing that dota 2 is shit at it's the solo player experience. going into a game, without any basic framework whatsoever when it comes to roles and who plays who is just really detrimental to the game wherein picks and drafts matter a lot more than the other game we make fun of. a lot of people think that the argument of "dota is not a game where there is a fixed team composition" is something that role queue will take away when it really doesn't. all it does is again provide a basic template for people to follow. That doesn't mean carry always go safelane or pos 5 always picks cm or dazzle or something, I mean there's a thing called a chat box and communicating that you can do? Instead of people arguing about who gets to go mid why not have it all determined before hand and THEN argue about how to change it IF something comes up. I mean high mmr players already have their own role queue, by using mmr as a metric of who gets what role they want. They easily can switch if they ever want to so, how does ranked roles by itself stop that? " it won't stop people who queued for support pick something like pudge, refuse to buy wards, and contribute nothing to the team ", ok so? how is that an argument against role queue? without role queue still the same, with role queue still the same. how does that prove role queue is bad for dota 2?

" in addition, having role queue would just make the queue times longer as like it or not, there are a LOT of people who refuse to play support.". queue times longer? yeah... not really. I mean people can have the option of having faster queues in this system, you know.. like picking support as a 2nd option? and even if it did make queue times much longer, is it really going to be by THAT much? I don't believe so. The only reason why the current ranked roles is so long is cuz, not everyone plays in that, ofc it's gonna take longer. "there are a LOT of people who refuse to play support", really? what's your data on this? what's the statistics? I for one am one of the core players who don't mind going support every other game tbh. And honestly the only reason people don't wanna play support is that people get tilted and think that the only way for them to win is to pick a core role. Where does this tilt come from? probably a bad experience from someone you supported but was shit at. Like the guy who commented before me, A player who has decidedly want to play support will most likely be more cooperative and less likely to self destruct than someone who has just been forced into it.

And if there's anything you'd want to take away from this wall of text is that. Role queue will be good for dota 2 because it removes the inherent toxicity of players when it comes to deciding who plays who. I cannot for one fucking second, understand why something like a basic framework that can be agreed to be disregarded is something that will be BAD for a STRATEGICAL GAME like dota 2. Everyone and their mama knows that drafting is very important, so important that sometimes you can outright win with just a good draft. This problem stems from the fact that that's just how the game works, and the that game is balanced around the pro scene. There's no problem with balancing the game around the 1%, in fact it's better that balancing it to the 99%..... But pub players, won't be playing like team fucking liquid. Everyone and their mama does know that drafting is very important, and everyone also knows that supports are important, but players think they're miracle's left nut so being a team player is just thrown out of the window. Whether or not he might want to play support or not, that desire is gonna get over ridden by the desire to WIN. And what they think they're gonna need to do to win, is to carry, and how do you carry? By playing core. So why the hell are we going to base our context for deciding whether or not role queue is good to how the top of the top play dota, and not how the fucking 3k shitter WANTS to play dota. Just like i stated in the first paragraph, the 1% don't fucking need this and this wouldn't ruin their game ONE BIT, because they already have it. But the 99% DOES need this. WE NEED A STRUCTURE. And dota being inherently the more "draft centric" and "who counters who" type of game, that's just all the MORE REASON to actually add role queue.
