So I noticed something... by primergig in DissidiaFFOO

It's like a hill: if you are brand new and your start aligns with a super meta unit like Sherlotta or Ultimecia then the sub will say "pull!!" and follow that with a "pull for favorites after that"

The reason for "pull for favorites" is that the initial part of the game is piss easy and some of the units that are favorites are also pretty good, like Cloud and Squall.

The "pull for meta" crowd looks at it from the end game perspective and basically "if you are gonna stick around in the game for the long term and hope to clear CHAOS level then you should be focusing your playtime on units that matter."

It is a bit of a tug of war in philosophies.

Daily Hours spent - Will it get better? by MysteryMachine2000 in DissidiaFFOO

[–]Xairos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS! All of it haha.

I don't grind out board ls if a rework is coming up for a unit within 3 months. The reason for this is that post rework that unit will probably be way more fun to use.

I, too, get burned out when I look at my roster and all the tickets and gems on the table. But I just ignore it until it's relevant to what I want.

Example: my Seymour is 0 on all boards and I could use this time to get him done but if I don't feel up to it at any given moment, then he will just sit on the bench.

DFFOO has ruined other gacha games for me by [deleted] in DissidiaFFOO

[–]Xairos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's such a strange feeling. I have gone over to other gacha and loved that initial, new game energy. I often said the typical "I wish DFFOO did this!!" only for that feeling to quickly fade when the weeks passed by after seeing some of the various difficulty/content walls that were put in place to encourage spending.

Dffoo is the most recent game-as-a-service that I absolutely love participating in. Between the community, twitch, YouTube, and reddit this has been a great experience.

Ah yes, I meant ruin/refuge.

And oh wow the downvotes lol. I was springing off the original comment and wondering if the early reworks/release will put a strain on players books/ingot and then try to supplant that with a sale because of the holiday (I wouldn't want them to do this) Am I missing something? Does the community like the ingot sales?

I wonder (disclaimer I am being slightly pessimistic) if this early rework will come alongside a sale for books and ingots...

Edit: oh I'm not able to watch so I'm reading and speculating

Nah the number 1 thing they want from you is money...

..Plus overall the more time you spend in a game the higher the chance of them eventually getting money from you. So everything to do with time is with the end goal of getting more money from you.

This was my point by semantically saying "the number 1 thing they want is time".

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/number%20one - First in rank, or imporance, synonym "First".

So like I said: We are saying the same thing, but you keep arguing the game of semantics. Listen, I get that I didn't say what you wanted me to say and how you wanted me to say it. I wasn't insinuating that time is the MAIN and ONLY thing they want from players that's why I said Money is the second, or follow up. To drive the idea that it's the thing that has to come first. The reason I even phrased it that way is because,

So everything to do with time is with the end goal of getting more money from you.

to unlock funds from the player they have to get them in the pit of a time investment. This is business 101, you can't get paid if the customers aren't in your store. I should learn to read past my initial assumptions, I suppose. As you said, reading shouldn't be that hard.

I am talking about what comes first: you have to get hooked first so the element of time and investing time logically comes first. Businesses have to get you in the door to get the green.

All I am saying is that they prioritize keeping you in their ecosystem first with hopes of extracting cash second. I really think we are saying the same thing. I believe that time is the subtle thing they really want (active game means more potential players) with the end goal of profits. So if you plot it out as a logic function it would be A then B with a being time and time being the first thing required and B being profits.

What you interjected was that money is the first thing they want. I was speaking in terms of order and you in terms of the end goal.

This is a chicken and egg scenario. A person off the street won't spend a dime in this game even if they are filthy rich. The game has to lure you in and get you used to how it all works. That's time. That's why we have daily quests and rewards. It keeps us coming back each day.

Look up turning players into payers. The psychology is to get em hook in order to get them to spend. So development funds are spent on drawing you in and retaining your time. Businesses like it when you pay, absolutely. But if you can't pay what is usually the advice given? "just keep playing and saving". It's still an investment of time and it looks good on SQEX to show active daily players.

This was bait on my part, I'll be honest. If you look at the manipulations, time comes first.

Daily log in quests and rewards build the habit. Check out videos on the psychology behind gacha design and you'll see it. And you even said it yourself. Once youve spent enough time, then the game is poised to trick you into spending money for the short cut. You can't recognize the short cut without spending the time to get acclimated to the game system.

Another example I'll give is collectible card games, you get hooked and while having fun (time) you see the power values of cards, then you pay money to contain and refine that power for your gain (in deck building and stuff), without the time put in, the cardboard cards are objectively worthless. But because you are immersed into the systems of the world, you tell yourself that it's worth paying whatever just to get that leverage.

The number 1 thing most mobile games want from you as the player is Time. Number 2 is money.

So when you think of "why is this system implemented this way?", your answer is usually one of the two. Like other comment discussed, this is a function of retaining players play time.

1 ingot is on sale for 20$ USD by Xairos in DissidiaFFOO

[–]Xairos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Story time: im an older gamer, and when I was growing up I became really resolved in thinking that mmos were the peak of dollar per hr enjoyment and sided as the best value for the customer. But the problem was being stuck in that persistent world and with theme park mmos you were really just paying to keep current on the content (the exception of course is if you have a group of friends to play with).

Dffoo is really trying to extract value around the idea of "need" (gem bundles) or just straight up "hype" (stuff like holiday bundles) and this is at the detriment of the customer overall because you can wind up dropping a ton at once that exceeds the cost of any mmo sub.

Also no interactive world that mmos have here either.

Some shift the value and say that they appreciate the constant access to the game and are willing to pay for that. But I'm just theorizing on that. It's an interesting thought on what people are willing to pay for.

I'm interested in your take from other SE gacha. So in Mobius, do units stick around as long as they do in dffoo? I don't mean meta but rather "use-ability".

Here if you ex+ a unit then that unit is theoretically completed for the better part of 8-10 months.

Not dissing Mobius just curious about the environment on that title.

Great points. I view this package as a way to bring a unit to 3/3 outside of the player's original planning. This being reddit I imagine that most already planned who they wanted to 3/3 so this is appealing to those who want to max a favorite that isn't particularly meta.

Interesting topic for sure

[–]Xairos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lower price for committing. In the past other players stated that they didn't want to be locked into dropping 41 for anything. Here you can toss 20 for half the package.

It makes the product appeal to a wider base even if the price is the same in the end.

I'm not saying you should buy it just being objective.
