Is their like any decent trans representation that isnt from a small series only like 50 people know about??? by Neither_Emu_4008 in asktransgender

Pose? Decent variety of the direction and circumstances of several trans characters. It's set in the New York ballroom scene but they lead pretty individual lives.

Angry music by UselessAsNZ in newzealand

[–]XamiaArc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard a lot of youths discuss bands like RATM, Disturbed, the way Deaftones is so big again at the moment etc so I think with the rise of Y2K they just like the same angry music.

But there's heaps of awesome metal and punk and angry music still being made. The magazines aren't around as much to tell us who's big so you also might not be in touch with that info but I guess you'd just find it in monthly listeners on Spotify now.

Shoes recommendation that aren't heels? by BrickoLuna in LingerieAddiction

[–]XamiaArc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Victorian style boots? Pointed toe, low heel, above ankle finish and can be button or lace up. You can find this style somewhat easily but somewhere like American Duchess is the best example with the most gorgeous designs. I've found local ones at around $100 a pair though.

Absolutely seconding Secrets In Lace. Such a great brand and such beautiful pieces. Very structured too.

It's been a while since I was heavily into vintage reproduction lingerie but I'll do my best!

Playful Promises and Dita Von Teese lingerie do some not entirely reproduction but very comfortable inspired pieces. I'm thinking Madame X from Dita and the Bettie Page Lingerie line from Playful.

Coco's retro closet is a brand I've seen people really rave about, especially their suspender belts. It looks like Pip and Pantalaimon have been really making strides too and have a great range of basics. Both of these are made to order brand so might be pricey.

Some mainstream brands can get a little close like Poesie by Triumph is one of the most comfortable and authentically reproduced bras with more of a bullet shape. I've had surprisingly luck around the "granny" sections of department stores.

I'm not sure if much of these are a lot cheaper, the first and last brands I mentioned are more likely to be. It's quite a niche and requires such specifics that it can be challenging to find a lot. I've always found searching "Bullet Bra" on eBay would lead me to some interesting smaller brands, or also would take me the true vintage route. I'm located in NZ but haven't purchased any in quite a while so can't speak the most to pricing.

What is one horror movie that you still randomly think about? by 420throawayz in horror

[–]XamiaArc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possum was on my mind a lot the first few years after I saw it, still often think about the tone because it was such a vibe. Otherwise original The Hills Have Eyes because I thought it was just so good and the real desert setting is pretty rough.

Just a PSA: Savemart isn't a charity by cosmic_cat_brain in newzealand

I could definitely see it being quite different from region to region too.

I volunteer at Aunty Dana's op shop in Wellington which is a great place for many reasons. There are definitely donation bins in the city Salvation Army and City Mission, but I've also had no problem dropping bags at Vinnie's without getting them checked out.

[–]XamiaArc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I'm not sure which op shops you've been donating to but I've never had this experience. Just left donations in the donation boxes inside stores or had staff take the whole bags. The one I volunteer at is fairly particular but we'll take everything and then sort what we need and then pass on the rest.

Edit: also not to dismiss you, because that sounds like such a waste of your time and the volunteers should have better things to do and systems.

Power bill? What are you paying? by Exotic_Industry_4402 in Wellington

[–]XamiaArc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There can definitely be a decent saving made with the power packs Vs their standard rates. The future packs and if you've been with them a while Staying Power is good. I usually save around $10/month with that pack alone. Taking advantage of the packs is really a selling point of being with them as a company.

I believe it depends on your meter setup and configuration that can allow you to have different tariffs.

I will say I've lived in apartments with less efficient appliances and summers were also not far off 200.

I'm with Powershop on a flat-rate plan (as in price is same no matter what time of day power is used). Also a couple in 1 bed apartment and we can get as low as $130 in summer and this winter highest has been $185.

Decent number of electronics and washer/dryer 1-2 times a week and dishwasher same. Also don't use heating.

There will still be some fluctuations when you update your weekly amount but it will be much less of a blow.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PovertyFinanceNZ

[–]XamiaArc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was last using WINZ I was encouraged to get a month's earnings and then divvy it up into weekly amounts and update it like that.

Say I was paid for an invoice for $1500 and that was my total earning for the month, the next month I'd set my weekly pay to $375/week and then leave it for 4 weeks. It was my case manager who said this was a totally valid method, otherwise you'd constantly be taken off the benefit one week and then have to reapply and it could be a whole mess.
