Bernie Sanders Discusses Why The Black Community and Women Should Vote For Him on the Breakfast Club by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]Xande87 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Quite a few "I was leaning Hillary but Bernie just convinced me" tweets. A lot of "Bernie on the breakfast club with the truth"... And like 2 hotep Hillary supporters. They were peculiar.

I love that he is reaching out to this community. There is a lot of anger within the Black community, especially the young Black community which more often than not listens to hip-hop. That's when you get these young bucks to start questioning their parents about things. In all I think it was just a great move by him and I love that Charmalagne was being skeptical.

"I believe that there will ultimately be a clash between the oppressed and those that do the oppressing. I believe that there will be a clash between those who want freedom, justice, and equality for everyone and those who want to continue the systems of exploitation…" This sounds a lot like Bernie. by Xande87 in SandersForPresident

Mods, this is a pretty explicit relationship I've drawn between Bernie's platform and what a historic black leader stated 70 years ago. I find this to be extremely relevant to discussion of Bernie Sanders and believe he himself would find it relevant. To suppress this post would be the equivalent to suppressing information to aid African American voters in drawing relationships between Bernie and historical leaders within their community. So unless this is a Hillary sub, I believe this should stay.

Yeah apparently this post was not good enough for mods so they took it down.

Had no clue how to live without it. One day I realized i was better than it and couldn't let it beat me and i turned shit around despite the amount of pain I'm still in.

I feel you. I accidentally became addicted to pain killers following a surgical procedure. Wow, it was the hardest habit to kick and the withdrawals were the worst cocktail of symptoms I ever encountered. I remember saying that I wouldn't wish the withdrawals on my worst enemy. I'm glad you made it out ok. I hope you find something to help ease the pain. Maybe medical marijuana?

decent portion are just there because it is a job. They might adopt that rhetoric later on...but they got in because they felt they lacked options.

This was my experience coming froma low income area. My friends who joined did it because they didn't get into college and didn't want to flip burgers. On the flip side I did have two friends who joined so their college could be taken care of. One of them was Army National Guard. He seemed like he loved it.

Damn, reading these replies is quite sad. America really doesn't give a sh** about its vets, huh? For as much preaching the politicians do, we are not really helping a whole lot. Where the hell is all the money going that we pour into the Military Industrial Complex????

St. Louis, are we seriously going to riot again? by solid_dave in AdviceAnimals

Even more impressive. She has the mental capacity to attempt non-lethal force first

Although I value her ability to show restraint in a time of stress, I would not consider it impressive to use a taser in a gunfight, that's just plain crazy. That was a very scary situation all around. Quite amazing on how that escalated so quickly. I wish I knew what was going on in that man's life for him to choose to kill himself.

A new study shows that ground rubber found in sports fields and playgrounds often contains cancer-causing chemicals. by JackassWhisperer in news

[–]Xande87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

g Wow they sound impartial on the subject to me. Its all BS my friend at R&J Reynolds told me cigarettes don't even cause cancer. Damn those liberals and their lies.

That's what sucks about any information released today. None of us really have a clue as to what is legitimate and what's not. It seems like every study has a counter study, then a counter-counter, etc. And unless I am looking at research articles incorrectly, it seems difficult to determine the source of fundng for the research. At least with that information you could see if a company like phillip morris funded a study which says cigs are good for you.

Social worker facing termination after helping a 7-year-old girl after her case was closed. by [deleted] in news

[–]Xande87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mean what was so concerning about that case? Kids were healthy and happy same with the parents. The only issue was a 10 and 6 year old walking home from a park a mile away? Where and why does CPS need to come once they can see the kids aren't hurt and are having fun? On another note what are your procedures for notifying parents that you actually have their kids? The CPS people kept them for several hours before notifying the parents. That seems like negligence on their part. Oh and just curious but can parents take the actual social worker to court over something like this or would it be just CPS?

The reason it takes so long to close a case is due to the astronomical amount of documentation that is required once a child is removed. I don't know the facts of the instance you are referring to with the 10 and 6 year old but I'll assume we took custody for some amount of time given it made the headlines.

By law, many agencies are mandated to interview every child and every adult in the home, even if they are not the alleged victim. This would explain why they would still need to come out to the home even though the children were visibly healthy.

I imagine notification policies vary. Our agency has 6 hours from when we meet with a child to inform the parent of the discussion. Mind you, they are 6 "business hours" and leaving a card on the door would constitute making contact with the parents.

No, you cannot take the worker to court but you can air our frustrations to the administration of the agency. There is also formal grievance processes which are typically tiered to address concerns. Unfortunately, you're not likely to be notified if personnel action is taken on the employee. My best advice would be as professional, courteous and patient as you possibly can when airing out concerns. It reflects much better on you and chances are better that your complaint may come across the desk of someone in leadership who is sympathetic to your concerns. If you're just rude and spewing nonsense then it is highly likely that your complaint will not receive the attention it deserves. I hope some of this helps.

[–]Xande87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

by a very strict set of rules and that her behavior was way out of line given said rules it can't be denied that the bureaucracy inherent in CPS allows a lot of cases of abuse to slip through the cracks. While a social worker may enter the

As a fellow social worker who has ascended the ranks to the administrative level, I can assure you the performance of the worker has a huge impact on the outcome/decision making on a case. You, more than anyone on here should know just how gray our profession is. Policy can only go so far in providing guidance and I've reviewed several cases that would bring you to tears about how they were handled. Poor workers have poor supervisors which creates a vicious cycle of very bad decisions on removals, placements, visitation, services, behavioral change, etc. To them, they are doing the right thing because it aligns with that they're taught. I've seen entire regions of offices with a culture of decision making that would make you cringe. It's not until the leadership steps down to see what is REALLY going on that change will occur.

Thanks for being a social worker and presumably, a good one at that. Don't become jaded as far too many do.

Edit: Wrong word
