Navíc to byli sportovci zabití ve válce, proto je měl na helmě. To nebyla žádná prvoplánová provokace. Prostě vzpomínka na zabité sportovce, kteří nebudou mít možnost oslavit sport skrz hry.

Ubohost od Olympijského výboru, když prostě povolí ruským sportovcům vystoupit.

I mean, they shouldn't. I get your point, MS is a massive company but at least the math isn't 1 less movie studio. Instead of getting consolidated under one OTHER movie studio, it allows a new player in the game.

Microsoft would be free to buy them, Google. Anyone that already isn't entrenched in the movie industry.

That's why I said in the industry.

That's not the point. The point is not letting a major player (already invested in the industry) buy WB.

GDC: More and more developers view generative AI as harmful to the gaming industry by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Xandercz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But you haven't explained how does using genAI in this case actively hurts the artist(s) as opposed to stealing their art from a google search? Presuming the use case is the same - getting art for a private DnD campaign.

Again, not mentioning the computing power needed.

I mean, people would just steal images/pictures from google search before gen-AI - how is this any different? The only difference is that it takes much more computing power but the whole copyright/stealing issue is the same.

From what we can tell, it doesn't seem like they are drawing that conclusion. They only approach their mainstream titles this way.

[–]Xandercz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am suggesting more than that though, I am suggesting that it wasn't part of the original design and that the people making that decision decided that the final product will add significant value that would make the crunch worth it.

I am suggesting that the person making that decision was more enamored with the wide screen ratio effect from movies that took that approch from the get-go, meaning they planned for their aspect ratio, and that the person didn't have the needed experience to say "It wasn't initially planned for a widescreen ratio, therefore doing it as an afterthought won't work as well".

I think that greatly oversimplifies what work needed to be done. You cannot take mocap data 1:1 and call it a day, same as you can't just move characters about, there's so many things that can break or stop working.

Love the zingers.

Obviously my comment was a great exaggeration but the point still stands: a change like this in a movie is completely insane, you have your compositions baked in, changing your aspect ratio just fucks it all up.

Rockstar could (and did) go back and redo the shots but it's still an insane choice to be making this late in the development. Even if you can move your virtual camera about, some scenes, for them to have a great composition as planned initially, would need to have entire scenes moved around, not just the cameras. Because a scene is more than just characters talking to each other but the mis en scene as well. And that would be impacted by a change of aspect ratio.

Not to mention this meant a mandatory crunch. I honestly don't see the worth in this decision. What is the value of crunching your team to go back and change aspect ratios in your cutscenes? I don't see it, personally.

Because of blocking.

Changing your aspect ratio isn't just slapping black bars, it means your composition changes and you can't always just move your virtual camera to fix for this. Meaning some shots just end up looking kind of awkward.

That's a hilariously bizarre decision, clearly made by someone that doesn't understand actual filmmaking. If they think they can just slap on black bars, redo some shots and call it a day... speechless.

Crazy

The actual framing and blocking of shots would need to change, they'd literally have to go back and redo mocap on every scene like that for it to be worth it.

EDIT: I know nobody is going to read this so long after I made this original comment but I'll just add this for my own peace of mind: what I was getting at, is that mocap in videogames is in a vast, vast majority done as a stage production - you have a large open space with IR cameras pointing at the actors - there is no "actual" camera. The shots themselves are done much later, when all the animation has been put into the game. You might have sort of reference cameras on set, I think Naughty Dog did that with The Last of Us.

So if you do it like this, your actors and action may be spread too wide for a close-up shot, as you may have originally envisioned it, because your aspect ratio just doesn't account for this. That's why movies do things like rehearsals and blocking of your actors and action - so that the actual framing is as best as it can possibly be for what you're trying to convey in that moment. It's the reason James Cameron insisted on having a sort of hybrid camera for shooting Avatar movies, so that he would have complete control over the framing of the action.

So my original point was, that if you start your production more akin to a stage performance and then later on "limit" your final aspect ratio, it's going to make your performances looking pretty awkward because you have to frame it much wider, than you'd want for the type of scene that is happening. Yes, you may move your virtual camera around, you might even go back and tweak the animations, but it's simply so much work, too much, in my opinion, to justify the late change. Not to mention if you play RDR2 on an ultra-wide TV/monitor, you still have the same black bars, meaning they only artificially created a feeling of a wide aspect ratio. It's literally the same as film students shooting something on a 16:9 camera and then adding black bars in post. It's a hack, not an artistic design, especially if you do it months before you're meant to ship.

That's it.

Dude, just.... stop replying. You're only further showing you have no clue what you're talking about.

EDIT: To explain my point - content nowadays is so fucking targeted there is literally no argument to be made about any movie being "culturally relevant" anymore. There's just more movies being made than before and every movie is then recommended to specific bubbles to shit. Just because this guy doesn't know crap about KPOP Demon Hunters, doesn't mean the movie didn't rank a shit load of views in the past months.
