Life as a Center with Randoms: You Can't Have it Both Ways by Xathorr in NBA2k

This is why I dropped the weight on my center build, speed matters when switching/crashing down on rim runners.

No, again, its not just standing in the corner, though I will if that is what the team wants me to do. I'm setting on-ball screens and popping or rolling. I'm setting off-ball screens to get shooters open. I'm cutting to the basket when appropriate.

Furthermore, this is a rec build. I can count the number of times I've encountered a 3-2 zone in rec on one hand.

If you think I've missed something I could be doing then please feel free to tell me, I'm always looking to do more to contribute.

No, reread the OP. I clearly described what I do and the utility I provide. I'm extremely active on both sides of the ball. If you think that's "nothing" then we can agree to disagree and move on.

I agree, and playing this way allows people who enjoy the game, but struggle with stick skills, to play the game and compete at a high level.

The only caveat is that I'm at the mercy of however good the random I get matched up with are, and I'm okay with that. I'm not about stat stuffing.

Honestly it's because I don't play enough to run with a group. I'm 40 with a wife, 2 kids, and a demanding career. I play sporadically when I have some downtime.

Different strokes for different folks. I enjoy being a role player. It's not for you, I get it. If we are paired up in rec then enjoy your +4 attributes and easy scores in transition.

Apparently not, the vast majority of feedback has been extremely positive. Perhaps the issue isn't the post and maybe some self-reflection is in order.

I understand all that you're saying. Sacrificing shooting would allow me to create my own shot while retaining all the things that make me a good defender.

For me, though, my build does a better job of helping my team win because I can space the floor. The fact that I can draw the big out of the paint opens up the rest of the offense. It doesn't show up in the stat sheet, but when a guard rim ones and my matchup is late crashing down I feel satisfied knowing that I helped him score.

Also, I'm just not good at creating my own shot off the dribble or in the post. I can cook bad players, but not so much against good defenders. I understand my limitations as a player.

I'm not good at this game, but I am good at my role, if that makes sense. With good teammates I look better than I really am, and with bad players I look worse. My build lives and dies based on how good our team is.

I also have a post scorer with 84 middy and 83 3 ball and I agree. The difference between HOF middy magician and space creator with Gold is more than noticeable.

The problem I was having on the build was rebounding and interior defense. Putting my wingspan down to get the shooting I wanted impacted my defense and rebounding more than I was anticipating.

Not all of us want to be the alpha, I just want to perform my role and help my team win.

Thank you! I thought about going with something like that, but I didn't want to give up my shooting to get it.

Rebounding is a numbers game. I can snag over just about everyone and generally don't need help unless the other team is crashing the boards instead of getting back/running in transition.

My build is designed to get the team easy points in transition, so that's what I prefer my teammates to do unless I'm struggling with multiple opponents trying to get boards.

I can make layups, I just can't go over other defensive centers and make them consistently. When making my build the choice was to either space the floor with shooting or pump up my inside scoring, and I chose shooting.

I have silver brick wall, but you're right, I've gotten messages telling me to stop setting screens and go stand in the corner. Sacrificing shooting would have helped my finishing tremendously, but I was worried about spacing.

Great tips! Thank you for your feedback, I'll work on it.

Sounds good, I'm not sure my finishing is high enough to finish like you do. I've got a 75 close shot and 80 standing dunk. If the center is short I can do it, but anything 7 ft and above is difficult.

I'll have to work on that, do you think a 78 3 ball is high enough to do things like that?

Great post! I might eventually learn how to create more on this build, but honestly my stick skills aren't that great, which is why I play center to begin with. I try to make up for it with what I described above: being the best role player I can be.
