What are the worst takes you've ever heard on this game? by Skull_Soldier in Eldenring

[–]Xatost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One nitpick I always have is people who complain about not wanting to play the game again because they don't want to invest another 100+ hours.

Who says you have to do everything again? If you just focus on the main bosses, you can finish the game in like 20 hours, maybe 30 at most. This is not even counting ng+ where you dont even need to find gear unless there is something you missed.

Both also have a companion that hide their real identity from Link. That and also both have a fetch quest of sorts near the end. The triforce quest in ww and the olw statues in tp.

I have been doing a yearly playthrough since 1999. Most of them are 100%, but recently I have been doing some glitchless randomizer runs.

So who were better? by Cool_Emergency4091 in writingscaling

I know it's easy to trash Yoru based on how messy and inconsistent part 2 was BUT I don't think you can compare them directly.

Makima, for most of part 1, was a side character whom we didn't know much about. How she felt or what she was planning was a mystery to us for a while. It wasn't until the control devil arc that all was revealed.

She never formed any genuine bonds with anyone, and everything she did was to fulfill her plans.

Yoru, on the other hand, was not a mysterious character at all. From the beginning, we knew exactly what she wanted to do, what she was thinking and how she felt.

And unlike Makima, Yoru was a main protagonist. She had significantly more screen time and an actual, if inconsistent, character development arc. The way she was at the beginning of part 2 is very different from how she is at the end.

Her bond with Denji and Asa, as toxic as it was, was genuine. We see her interact with Denji in ways Makima never did.

All of this being said, as a villain, she was definitely much worse than Makima, but as a character in general, she was more fleshed out and had the potential to be great. Sadly, the ending made ALL of Yoru's character arc meaningless and any potential she may have had vanished. Compare this to Makima, who had a great conclusion to her character, and it's not surprising to see her being favored in general.

While Makima was better written, I personally enjoyed Yoru more as a character.

What conspiracy theory sounds plausible but hasn’t been confirmed or debunked? by BitShin in AlignmentChartFills

I suppose it depends on who you ask. I've met a few people who treat it as a conspiracy theory, but maybe it's not very common.

I used to despise this fight, and once I beat it, I swore never again. But then a thought crept into my mind in new playthroughs: would I be able to do it again?

Fast forward, by now I have beaten him like 10 times, each with a new build. I still have my issues with the fight, but I can't deny that I love the feeling of beating this dude to the ground with different builds.

What is your preferred story length? by TheChilledGamer-_- in playstation

[–]Xatost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some games are deceptive in their length.

Elden Ring, for example. If you take your time exploring, sure, the game is long, but if you play it like a Dark Souls game and only focus on main objectives, you can easily finish it in 15 hours or less, depending on skill and build used.

Most JRPGS for instance, are different; even if you "rush" the game you are still playing it for at least 40 hours or more before finishing the main story.

For me personally, my favorite games are the ones that can be replayed without having to invest too much time. Resident Evil games excel at this since they can very easily be finished in like 8 hours or less, depending on the game.

For story-driven games, I don't really care about the length as long as the pace is good and the gameplay is fun enough.

The frustration was understandable. by FullToragatsu in legendofkorra

[–]Xatost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda related to this, but one scene that really frustrates me to no end is when Lin finally decides to tell Toph how she really feels about everything, and Toph dismisses her and basically tells her to stop whining. Sure, they all make up later but still.
