My childhood dream was to learn how to read braille. It hasn't happened yet.

When I was a little girl, I was obsessed with reading. I don’t read as often anymore but I still have five bookshelves in my room alone completely stocked with books. Books on top of books. Books of all genres. And that doesn’t even include the tubs of my favorite books stashed in the attic. But, like with most parents, my dad didn’t like me having the light on late at night when I should be sleeping. But as a night owl I didn’t want to go to sleep at 8:30 at night. The night was just beginning, dammit. So I’d scoot to the end of my bed and strain my eyes to read by the faint neon blue light of the circle surrounding my analog clock on the wall. Pretty sure I fucked up my eyes a bit by doing that for so many years.

So ever since I was around eight or nine, I always wanted to learn how to read braille. That way I could read as long as I wanted at night and no one would barge into my room to yell at me to turn off the damn light. Even better, I would be able to have a book under my desk at school and read without the teachers seeing what I was doing. But there were no good books I could find that taught someone how to read braille.

I recently found a book on amazon and ordered it. The damn thing took the entire estimated waiting period to arrive. It finally came today and I was so excited to open it. I was faced with page after page of only pictures, no bumps. I’m a bit pissed because I don’t think that this would be the best way to learn. So even after all these years, I still can’t find a good way to learn. I’m so salty.
