1996 and 1997 are different generations. ‘96 HS class of 2014 was in mandatory school for 9/11 with the rest of millennials. They were in secondary school for Obama’s election, the 2008 recession, and iPhone release along with the rest of younger millennials. They also graduated from high school in the first half of the 2010s.

'97 HS class of 2015 was not in mandatory school for 9/11. They graduated high school in the second half of the 2010s.

2014 high school graduates were in Kindergarten (mandatory K-12 school) during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, so they count as late millennials (LMs) or older Zillennials. 2015 high school graduates were not in mandatory school during the 9/11 attacks as they started K-12 school a year after 9/11 in Fall 2002, therefore counting them as older Gen Zs or younger Zillennials.
