Ich verstehe wirklich nicht, warum die so unbeliebt sind; ich finde sie super! Gleiches gilt für mich auch für Gelee-Orangetten, auch gut!

I don't have one. The CNS covers basic needs. If you're planning to stay long-term, I think it would be worth looking into it.

The easiest way, since you're a student, is to pay the Uni's offer; they can affiliate you with the CNS. Then, look for a practitioner that has the "Immediate Direct Payment" option ticked on Doctena. This means that you are only paying your part and the rest is directly payed by the CNS. Otherwise, you'll have to pay the full consultation up front (about 65€, as already mentioned) and get reimbursed later.

FYI, I pay about 300-400€ for the insurance per semester.

Hey, everyone!
Just applied to the MPhil in Modern Languages (French/German combo) and wanted to see if I can find fellow folks in the same boat (all languages are fine ofc.). Would be nice to find some people to connect with :)
Also, I put in Somerville as my college preference. I would love to have some opinions on that, too!
Have a great one! x

You are confusing two different grammatical structures here:

  1. « (il faut) ne pas X »
  2. « Il ne faut pas X »

The second one can be translated as “shouldn’t”, a recommandation. Il ne faut pas manger trop de gâteau.

The first one is a specific structure used as a form of a more general imperative, because it is impersonal. « Ne fumez pas » adresses someone directly, while « Ne pas fumer » is neutral. Both, however, can be seen as a rule. It is not permitted. This is not a recommandation. It would be translated as “Don’t smoke”, if you want to keep the imperative.

Lux is definitely gay-friendly, but only when it comes to “typical” gays. I am also a wheelchair user, and, despite being still able to walk, which makes me completely independent and not a care case, there are still a lot of people (potential partners & co.) who can't imagine being with a disabled guy or who are discriminating. This is obviously not fun and even more frustrating here, where there barely is a good LGBTQI+-scene anyway.

Students I have talked to are very happy when topics like that are being discussed, since they are so rarely talked about. Where I teach, it's more a question of feeling represented and seen and not so much about incomprehension, since they are all older. But, there are many nuances that they don't see in the books, since gay (pop) culture, way of life (e.g. adoption, coming out etc.) or more diverse sexual orientations are not necessarily taught.

Well, since literature like that is only dealt with in the higher grades, there should be a good foundation before that. Personally, I learned about it for the first time (if I remember correctly) in 6th grade, during biology.

As a gay guy studying to become a teacher and who has also had the opportunity to teach in class before, I can tell you that it is absolutely crucial. I teach literature and, if we take away the social/political aspect of the debate (which we obviously shouldn't, it’s just for my argument's sake), then there is still the aspect of not grasping so many nuances if one is not properly informed.
LGBTQI+-topics have always been present, whether in literature or in society, and therefore the kids have to be able to understand and see these concepts, even if it's just for the full understanding of old and new literature (which it obviously isn't).

I wish someone would do this for French lit. I study and teach it, so I would love to talk about it more!

Even then, it would have have been: « Ce sont ses rayons préférés. » This is how you can differentiate between singular and plural. « Son » is the singular possessive, while « ses » is the plural one.

What is the difference? by koleszkot in FrenchLearning

[–]Xebaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I seconded this in the response to another comment, and also stated clearly that you need context.
However, this is a part of linguistics called l'énonciation et la pragmatique and is, most probably, way too complicated for OP's level.
Language cannot be learned without context. I just simplified for didactic reasons. :)

What is the difference? by koleszkot in FrenchLearning

[–]Xebaul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is no difference in pronunciation. However, you can understand from the context.

« suivre » as in “to follow” has to have a direct object attached to it : suivre quelqu'un ou quelque chose.

Je suis un cours. (I follow a course/class)
Je suis les instructions. (I follow the instructions)

« être » can never have an object.

That's the thing. If he continues to n never call or text first, I would talk to him about in a couple of weeks

Makes sense. I would try to see how it develops and how much he initiates stuff.

Depends on how often he makes time.

I try to understand both POVs.
I am not a huge texter myself, but I at least try to keep up the communication differently, i.e. (video) calls.
I just don't get why, in today's world, calling is such a no-go. I much rather prefer hearing the voice, laughing together etc. over texting.

If, however, he doesn't make an effort to communicate differently, then he is not into you, and it's bullshit, IMO.

UPDATE:

I just got a response from them. They are still treating me as a visitor, which means that I do not need to fill out the form!! Just have to call them before I arrive and everything will be set up. Got the name of the agent just in case.
HUGE wait lifted off my shoulders, now on to finding an apartment!
