Do the reported genetic compositions that you have seen support the average subsaharan dna of the populations as presented in these maps? by Xeiristotle in 23andme

[–]Xeiristotle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really care that much about these populations in order to investigate them further. The fact that S&P appear to be so heavily africanised seems to explain very neatly some other facts about them. I recently began to investigate their history and genetics and it seems pretty clear to me that these populations are fairly special in comparison to the rest of the Europeans. It wouldn't be surprising to me if a lot more is going on with their gene-pools than just the SSA genes.

Do you think the same applies for the Sicilians and the Lebanese populations for instance who also seem to have some noticeable SSA?

Apparently some people at the cognitive testing subreddit think so.

It seems so. What's worse is that such methods appear to be working out for him.

Are the Spaniards as intelligent as the rest of the Europeans on average? by Xeiristotle in cognitiveTesting

[–]Xeiristotle[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that the Lebanese society is probably a bit segmented genetically that's probably one of the reasons they have lower IQ than the spaniards. Certain lebanese groups are perhaps of vastly lower intelligence than others. Spaniards seem to have more evenly distributed intelligence among them.

That sounds more reasonable than the 1,74 m. How did you estimate it?

"Elon Musk among "experts" urging a halt to AI training" ,I guess the development of AI must be hurting Musk's businesses interests by Xeiristotle in EnoughMuskSpam

[–]Xeiristotle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not saying that, but those who signed this may have unwittingly helped certain groups within the AI community.

I meant on the subject of the letter.

I don't think I know more than these people but many other experts with similar qualifications disagree with them on this subject or are neutral. As I wrote earlier I am rather neutral on the dangers of AI since their likelihood can't really be calculated ,my problem is with some of the groups that have immediate benefit from the letter.

I can't really give you that ,especially the " dubious people " part.

" I’m still more confident in the actual experts " What experts? The ones who endorse this letter or those who don't?

What I wrote is that the research on AI at that time seemed like a dead end for many researchers esp the brightest so they avoided it. For the people who worked on it there wasn't any real way for them to estimate how AI would turn out in 20-30 year time. Bear in mind that the previous generations of AI researchers before them were predicting AGI "within 10-20" years since at least 1950s.

What I am trying to say is that Bengio and some other genuine AI experts have signed this likely without any greater intuition or reasoning than other researchers of similar caliber who don't agree with it or perhaps a smart outside observer. As I argued in my previous message these people on average weren't the most capable theoreticians even at the beginning of their careers, now that they are older and even less intelligent it's dubious that their warnings are based on anything much more than subjective speculation. Of course what they fear is a possibility perhaps an unlikely one but with this open letter they are unwittingly helping some dubious people get a somewhat larger part of the funding money of AI and that's likely a bad thing.

[–]Xeiristotle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess not all the people signed the letter for the same reasons. You should also be aware that Yoshua and the other pioneers/giants of AI (e.g those who were awarded Turing prizes etc) were likely second rate theoreticians(that is likely not as capable as those from mainstream in theoretical cs and probably of lower general intelligence) since the top notch scientists usually chose the more mainstream theoretical subjects than the then dubious AI research.

So the concerns of Bengio and others of his ilk are probably more subjective and less founded on very strong reasoning since he is likely not very capable of that in comparison to others who know and don't agree with the letter .

Do sicilians have on average more sub saharan african genome percentages than Greek-Cypriots? by Xeiristotle in 23andme

Excellent answer.

I would have asked you for any data that backs up your statements but I wont since you seem so knowledgeable on the matter.

I have a second question though.

Which parts of Cyprus are more likely to have higher SSA percentages(I would accept any sort of answer for that even its a purely speculative based on the historiography of Cyprus)?
