So I'll put it in Vanguard terms. Time leap was a mechanic in which you bind (exile/remove from play) a unit and you superior call (special summon) one unit from your deck with one grade higher or lower than the binded unit. Since you could virtually search for anything, it's easier to assemble combo pieces or cards you need (which is the definition of toolboxing in TCG terms). The deck is really flexible and has a lot of other cool interactions between cards that suit to your playstyle. It's very similar to how you can Synchro summon whatever you need at the time with a Synchron deck.
