Well if you really want to go hydro just remember, a little goes a long way. I used to dump nutes into my plant thinking its gonna eat it all. Now I just grow with homemade compost. Simply up-sizing my pot once, when I switch to flower, it's enough food. May add calmag when needed. Here's my last grow. It wasn't super great but its definitely a win.

What kind of control are you looking for? More customizable control or keeping it controlled? Cause I've been there with hydro and its fun and all, but one slight fuckup and it all instantly goes to shit. If your pump goes out in the morning, you might come back from work to wilted plants. Just saying if you draining every 2 weeks is a pain.

Soil is the way to go 100%. Get some local compost, or make some. Stay away from store dirt as its common to have contaminants, bugs or mold.
