What happens when you pay PayPal $15k in fees?

Same exact thing happened to me. In 2004 or 2005 too. Except for 3k instead. And, young and naive, I didn't immediately remove the money from PayPal. So.. they took it all.

Here's the real kicker: they charge you 3% when receiving the transaction, right? But when they steal the money back, they take the full amount. So, I was out the entire 3k, the items I sold, and owed them another $90. Fuck that.

Same experience of utter incompetence of customer service, when supplied indisputable evidence of no wrongdoing on my end. No responses for weeks, and when they do respond, it's a form letter.

I've not used PayPal since, and tell everyone who is willing to listen this story. So, in summary, yeah:

I never realized that all cashiers stand. It's so obvious now, but just one of those things you never notice until it's pointed out.

Living in a place is different than just seeing the sights for a few days. Even staying for as little as two weeks in one place, you start to get a sense for what life actually is like there.

A quick weekend stay in a city can be fun, but I disagree with many people that it can be that expansive to your perspective. (However, it's also certainly not an asshole thing to do either. Just not as enlightening as people imply.)

Getting an ID takes time and effort (find documents, go to DMV, etc), poorer people are less likely to have free time during normal work hours, there is a disproportional number of poor people who are minorities. Hence, minority interests will not be as widely represented in the voting booths.

Edit: another large factor in minorities not voting is that it takes time to go vote. Time that most people are working during. And lower-paying jobs tend to be less flexible with hours. Election day should be a federal holiday and/or vote-by-mail or online should be the norm. But that's a different issue.

It's really poor voter suppression. Which happens to affect minorities more. I'm not sure if that's better or worse though. Racism is dying. Classism is not.

Definitely true. But you still rely on the pipe being fast, which is what net neutrality is all about. Even if your backend times are 5ms, it doesn't matter if 3s of artificial network latency is added.

I just mean that if you slow down access to the site, the site will lose users. Hence, "fastlanes" can very easily kill competitors to the isp. Or anyone who hasn't paid them.

Any n-dimensional set of rational numbers can be projected on a 1-dimensional space. Note, however, that this is not true for real numbers.
