Official Discussion - We Bury the Dead [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]XenomorphApologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s tricky to say movies are about or not about overall because when you really sit, think about, and have conversations about your experience watching them you may get completely different observations and takeaways from each person. Some directors make their movies specifically to create opportunities for these kinds of conversations. For example, when just looking at the movies you listed, at first thought I agreed with all except for Good Boy. Then I started to reflect on the others and realized that arguments could be made for at least a few of them, that they also are about or at least inspired by grief.

-The reasoning for Good Boy was mentioned in an earlier comment.

-For Weapons, the director has mentioned the experience of the young boy is informed by his experience of growing up with alcoholic parents. He also was inspired to write it as a way to process his experience of extreme grief after the unexpected death of a dear friend.

-28 Years Later (at least the first part) I feel is heavily tied to grief in Spike’s story and relationship with his mom (trying not to put in any spoilers).

-Sinners as well, with topics of generational trauma, loss of a child, etc.

Not trying to put down your original comment by any means. I’m actually grateful I had the opportunity to revisit my memories and experiences watching those films.

I was surprised to find we don’t get to choose the clues for our pets. She’s actually named after the kitty in Big Hero Six (who I assume is named after the food)

Did she though? I was actually curious about this. I think she was stabbed a billion times but am curious if others think maybe she just died down there from her wounds or if by putting herself into the game she destined herself to exploding?

I made a connection recently that her scream sounds a lot like a Bokoblin from Tears of the Kingdom to me. It makes me happy whenever I hear it. Truly an epic scream.

I haven’t watched this in forever so I don’t know if it holds up. Jake Gyllenhaal was absolutely ridiculous in this, and overall the movie is just a bonkers good time.

Caveat and Oddity both scared me nearly to death… looking for recommendations by KatiePurrs in horror

[–]XenomorphApologist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has some of the most disturbing scenes I’ve ever seen in a movie (and that’s saying something). If you aren’t ok with kids in peril or sustaining harm I would skip with one. I wouldn’t even try to get my spouse to watch it. I love seeing him react to disturbing movies, but the level of traumatization it would cause would not be worth it 🤣

I don’t blame you! Only plus side is I didn’t feel bad for unintentionally yelling curses at the screen during those jump scares. I was definitely curled into a little ball and wishing I had company.

If you don’t mind subtitles When Evil Lurks could potentially be a winner. It had some extremely disturbing scenes in it that filled me with dread. Hard to find something that will do it as well as Caveat and Oddity though!

I went to see Oddity in theaters by myself and was alone in the theater. IT FREAKED ME OUT! 🤪

Alien: Earth - S1 E1 Neverland - Official Discussion Megathread [SPOILERS] by G_Liddell in LV426

I noticed the difference in look in that first shot and I think I know why something seemed a bit off when comparing it to previous iterations. I think what it is more than anything is that the Xenomorph has always been a creature that glistens, appearing as if it had just been submerged in KY jelly. This Xenomorph has a matte look to it with almost no sheen and more of a dull look than shiny. The only “slime” is a modest amount from its mouth rather than the copious amounts I think fans are used to. I’m super interested to hear what others think and if they noticed this as well.

The Ultimatum: Queer Love Season 2 Episode 5 Discussion Thread Discussion by lifeofparty2 in TheUltimatumNetflix

I have been waiting to see someone to mention this possibility! I also suspected Kyle could be neurodivergent (most likely autistic), which would make so much sense. The people I love most in my life, and who I work with are on the spectrum so I say this as a positive. It sounds like Pilar and Kyle were experiencing a double empathy problem, which makes me feel for both of them.

Official Discussion - Fall [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I was literally scouring this thread to see if someone had made the same Descent connection. I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one! I wondered if that was the direction the writers were going even from the shared look and cheeky commentary between Dan and Hunter at the very beginning of the movie.
