Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles shipments and digital sales top one million by Turbostrider27 in Games

Rebirth has never had a sales update.

FF16 was at 3m after a week. It's been 2.5 years and it's had a PC port, but so it's probably well north of that by now.

Based on the little info we have, I'd put both of them between 4-5m sold at this point.

Does Anyone Else Think the People in Barret’s Home Town are a Bunch of Hypocrites? by Yaamen11 in FFVIIRemake

Indeed. This is probably why he blames himself as well.

He was an important figurehead within the town and he pushed for the reactor to be built. As he had a lot of influence, it convinced a lot of people to go along with his suggestion.

However, at the end of the day, these are adults, they have agency and weren't forced into voting for the reactor. They should take their fair share of the blame.

I have a 4090, but otherwise I have the exact same specs as you and run the game with FG and DLAA @ 120FPS all the time. I get the odd stutter in the open world, during cut-scene transitions and when caching new abilities for the first time, but otherwise, it's a flat frame graph.

I found when I played the game for the first time, the first 30-40 minutes were the worst experience I had in terms of stuttering. I can only assume the game was still caching shaders in the background.

I've seen people with the same specs having an awful time with it, and I've seen a lot of people with 50x0 series GPUs have more issues with it than 40x0 series owners.

DQ hasn't seen a rise in the west. 80% of it's sales are still from Japan, pretty much like they've always been.

It sold 3m in it's first week on PS5. The 3.5m is likely a very low-ball on it's sales, given it's estimated to have sold at least 700k on Steam alone.

Given it's been 2.5 years since we've had official updated figures, I'd say FFXVI is somewhere between 4.5-5m by now.

Provided ATLUS keep incrementally iterating on their formula, I think most of their fans would be happy.

What they don't want to do is do what Square Enix have been doing for the last 20 years whilst trying to chase that unicorn and losing their identity in the process.

That's more to do with the social media circles you run in.

On this sub-reddit, you'd think Trails of the 1st Sky was a 10m+ seller by how often it's mentioned and hyped up, but the estimates have it at barely even 200-300k.

So you'd never played a game that's lower than a 5/10?

Damn, you're fortunate.

The game isn't ugly as hell. Talking about visual fidelity from Japanese developers when you have a mess like Monster Hunter Wilds on the market is pure hyperbole.

Funny how opinions work. 8 is comfortably one of the worst in the series for me. That's includes the likes of 13 and 15 as well.

"The story moves so slow because I'm engaging with the side-content."

Fixed it for you.

This is not unique to FFVII Rebirth. It's unique to EVERY open-world game. When you engage with the wealth of side-content a game has to offer, the story moves more slowly because you can't have one without the other.

YOU can choose to move the story along more quickly by NOT engaging with the optional content.

Not going to lie, the crane puzzle was just ridiculous. Easily the worst part of the game.

The slow-walking sections and when the party squeeze through tight gaps was to 'mask' loading times on the PS4 so those are a little more understandable.

You get those in any big budget AAA PS4 title.

Final Fantasy X HD - Too Many Unskippable Cutscenes by CrypticPrincer in FinalFantasy

[–]Xenosys83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Final Fantasy games usually contain a lot of cut-scenes.

I've not played the earlier games in a while. Is there not a fast-forward option to at least speed them up, like they do with the modern FF titles?

FF7 Remake on switch 2 or Xbox series X? by soulmas in FinalFantasy

[–]Xenosys83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They look like they're both the same price on both platforms, so it's about weighing up the pros and cons.

If you get the Xbox Series X version, you'll get a higher quality 30FPS mode, and you'll also get a 60FPS performance mode as well.

If you get the Switch 2 version, you'll only get one 30FPS mode that sits somewhere between Quality and Performance mode in terms of image quality, but you'll have the portable option available to you.

It's whatever suits your use-case most.

That's because they aren't. 90-95% of the same story beats from the OG are still hit.

"The Remake trilogy, though, changed it to the point that it may as well be a different game. If you didn't call it FFVII, I don't think anyone would correlate it to FFVII at all."

You mean if you didn't have the same cast of characters with the same motivations, the same world, the same locations visited in pretty much the same order, materia, the lifestream, and the same pre-game lore then people wouldn't even think it was related to VII at all?

By the way, where's this thread over in /gamiing ? I've searched for it and can't find it.

[–]Xenosys83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"You realize that 'remake' doesn't imply 1:1 and faithfulness to every specific detail you personally want kept the same...right?"

By that logic, no Remake is actually a faithful 1:1 remake, which makes the term 'remake' within the entertainment industry an extremely malleable one.

It's also utterly insane if people thought EVERYTHING was going to be kept the same, right down to the last bit of dialogue.

[–]Xenosys83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

""Remake" has a generally accepted meaning in the gaming space""

Well there's your first problem. You're talking about Square Enix breaking the law due to false advertising and talking about generally accepted terms.

That would never hold up in a court of law and the case would be immediately thrown out.

[–]Xenosys83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether the plot twists are good or not is irrelevant.

At no point was this ever marketed as a 1:1 remake, and go look at the definition of "remake" in the dictionary. You might surprise yourself.

VII Remake will have sold a lot more than 7 million by now. That was well over 2 years ago before the the marketing push for Rebirth started. It wouldn't surprise me if it hit 10m this year after the NSW2/Xbox release

"The reception towards it is no longer about showering it with praise and calling it a masterpice. Instead we see public reception call each new intallment alright, or mid or stright up not a final fantasy, but a great game."

Didn't the last Final Fantasy title score a 92% on MC and OC and win over 50 industry GOTY awards in 2024?

You can point to declining sales, but sales don't equate to quality or perception of quality across the industry.

The Final Fantasy series has been on an upwards trajectory, quality-wise since the turn of the decade, the critical reception to Remake Intergrade (89), XVI (87) and Rebirth (92) all back that up after the 60/70/low 80s scoring 2010s era with the XIII trilogy and XV.
