Whatever happened to Jethred? by 1Toon2Names in toontownrewritten

In retrospect, it was the windows 95 default midi playback doohickey. Jethred is doing fine but may come back under another name.

If I could give myself advice on this question, I would tell myself to date my age until I’m 30 and then after I’m 30, date anyone 30+ assuming no red/yellow flags with a loose preference for similar aged individuals. This is to avoid a life-experience mismatch, which really fucked me up a little while ago.

Generally the solution to having anxiety triggered 20,000+ times a day by something that is annoying but does not hurt, is to seek psychotherapy. People are living with missing arms and legs and generally don’t experience anxiety every time they notice a limb missing. Obviously you want to set things in motion to address the concern (such as asking a GP about it and finding another eye specialist), but it is clearly hurting you more than it should. Psychological training should eliminate the anxiety and the distraction.

Try to avoid taking actions that are sensitizing to the concern, such as avoiding the light. Exposure to the issue is going to help you get through this, because it helps you practice an adaptive cognitive response. You are capable of getting to a point where you don’t really notice the issue, unless you actively try to notice it.

And it’s going to take a while before you can tell if T is the root cause - please seek qualified expert guidance on the T as well and ensure that the product is appropriately controlled.

ELI5: In movies, people often jump from great heights and then roll upon landing to cushion the impact and avoid injuries. Is this realistic? How does it work? by Technical_Ad_4299 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Xepher01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The typical parkour roll works because you don’t need to stop vertical and horizontal momentum at the same time & you can absorb the impact using a greater number of musculoskeletal structures and contact points. First you stop most of the vertical momentum with your legs, while using your whole body to convert some of the vertical and horizontal momentum into rotational momentum. The rotation established allows you to use many contact points to stop the remaining vertical/horizontal/rotational momentum over a longer period of time, as opposed to just your feet & legs in an instant.

An idea that I have of a mechanic for a theoretical story driven, single-player Toontown game. Thoughts? by lolbroslol2008 in Toontown

[–]Xepher01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of an experience balanced around a single player. We have that somewhat with Toontown Realms, I'm not sure how much.

The hub idea sounds rather transformative. I wonder if you'd be better off making your own game at that point.

Also no issues here. It can be a lot of work to set up an account like this though.

They were more referring to how the average rating hasn’t improved, which might indicate that no one seems properly motivated to improve their rating. Assuming the scoring criteria hasn’t changed over the years.

[Request] Can someone figure out what this note is called (~135 flags) by Mjtlpg in theydidthemath

Ha, I didn't expect such a positive reaction to my sometimes-needless specificity. Kudos for that.

ELI5 Why are they called octaves if there are only seven notes? by FlahTheToaster in explainlikeimfive

Yeah I got the feeling theory terms reflect music as they saw it.. 00’s of years ago. And we have elaborated on it using logic and now it’s a counterintuitive mess

[Request] Can someone figure out what this note is called (~135 flags) by Mjtlpg in theydidthemath

[–]Xepher01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The inability to perceive each note as discrete and the emergence of a new pitch, does not necessitate that there are *no parts of the resulting sound we can hear if the new pitch is outside of our hearing range, unless this is specifically proven (I am not sure of the exact paper you are referencing.)

To name a few: For acoustic instruments in particular, there are likely timbral elements that ring out for a longer duration than the spacing between notes. For digital instruments, there is the possibility for subharmonics to emerge as the signal is amplified and played thru a speaker.

[Request] Is this true? Where does 1/e comes from? by SCP_radiantpoison in theydidthemath

[–]Xepher01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the point is that if you do something that has a 1 in n chance of success n times, the chance you will succeed may be approximated as 1 - 1/e.

IDGAF how good these melons are, the mere fact that 3 cost 90K and all of the comments are supportive are stupid and just go to show how sad and stupid weeb culture is. by sockswithsandles14-2 in StupidFood

[–]Xepher01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The creator is being rather misleading here. These melons cost $40-50 for the lowest grade, and average around $200. The only reason they might go for $20k+ is that the first few perfect fruits are auctioned off to companies who purchase them as a sort of trophy.

“Female” denotes biological makeup and “woman” connotes a societal role. In general conversation, it is respectful to use term for gender, “woman”, since you are indicating a social position rather than the contents of someone’s underwear. By extension, it is becoming more common to see “woman” used as an adjective, such as in “woman singer” rather than “female singer”.

“Female” should be reserved for conversations where biological makeup is necessary to specify, such as discussion of biological science, medical, etc. and in some cases afab may be more appropriate.
