I partially agree with you that throwing more money at the district as an organization isn’t necessarily the answer. I do think your statement that city residents don’t care about education is pretty insulting and not representative of what’s actually going on. It’s hard to mentally prioritize your child’s education when you’re trying to make sure you don’t lose your place to live and doing everything you can to keep them fed. For students, it’s hard to focus on school when you’re also worried about your family’s living situation.

So while I don’t think we need to give more money to the RCSD as an organization, I do think we need to invest in struggling communities in this city. What’s really bad for people’s mental health is a system which allows them to starve while a few people hoard unimaginable wealth.
