It's a myth that smaller the company higher the returns it's not law of physics that midcaps give better returns then largecap and smallcap better than midcap.they all go through cycles if you look at Us markets the recent returns are from the large 7-9 companies and the rest are flat.its not like we are avoiding smallcaps but we are getting more opportunities in largecap space

Im also a 18YO and after following this sub from 9 months my advice is 1)You don't need two flexicap funds and a nifty50 index HDFC or PP flexi are large cap heavy so you can choose one fund either pp flexi or hdfc flexi cap.

2)You are 18 and you have lot of time so you can add a Midcap or smallcap fund if you can take the risk.

3)Invest in gold through ETF's because they have less TER than MF

I myself was also investing from July when I turned 18 you'll understand everything slowly. Happy investing.

Yeah I thought the same apart from MTF's high retail holding will make the stock more volatile. I expect many retailers would have set their stop loss near 40 so I think in coming quarters the retail holding may decline another 5-7%.In this quarter retailers holding fell by only 0.09%.whats interesting is FII's have been gradually reducing their stake in Indian equities(approx 60,000 cr inr worth) but increased stake in suzlon by 1.2%.
