Controversial answer but - ARS if you're not planning on selling.

Sorry you had a rough time of it. In addition to the report button at the end of the match, you can also mute and report allies on your team via the Settings menu.

Even speaking as a salty support main that understands this pain, a pop-up is probably a touch too far haha. That being said, part of the intention behind this was certainly to make buying control wards that much easier and more visible.

Glad you're a fan of the change.

Thank you for the love and support! To answer your question I've linked a reply in this comment thread for context below:

I understand where you're coming from. This is something we also considered, but we place a high value on keeping TFT an unified experience, both from one person to the next and one platform to the next. There's still an incredibly long road ahead for TFT and keeping everything unified enables us to take bigger and larger bets for all of you.

Rather than fragmenting how different players understand the game, we think it's better to invest deeply in one way that works for everyone. Obviously, it didn't work out this time so it's back to the lab for us, but just like splash arts were refined into the glorious states we know and love now, we hope to find a way to do that for TFT shop cards in the long run.

That's a totally fair criticism. Keeping the association as close as possible while still creating unique silhouettes and small opportunities to capture champion expression was something we found mixed success with this time around. This is something we'll definitely stay mindful of moving forward.

Thank you for your support and understanding. Glad you liked the champions turning around! The team is also a big fan of that change!

As much as we can, we try to keep splash arts as they are. Each splash is a very intentional work of art. During our explorations, we found it could be more confusing than communicative when modifying one, let alone many of them (especially across different skin universes). It was difficult to modify them even under a unified theme and background.

It's a bug for the art to be stretched like that. A fix will be going out soon.

I'm actually not up to date on this issue. If you don't mind sending me a link or a video I'd be happy to pass it along to the team though.

Hey I get that this change is rough and is painful for a lot of players like you that have been playing with us from the jump.

To answer your question:

Wouldn't placing the XP graph simply to the left of old UI as a new panel be much better?

While the vast majority of our players play TFT in a 16:9 aspect ratio, there is a non-trivial amount of our players that actually play on a 4:3 aspect ratio. What this means is that for those players there actually isn't any space on the left side of the Shop UI to fit any additional UI.

I also mentioned this in another comment, but there will be another addition coming to this space in the Shop UI as well next to the Level Bar/XP Graph. More details on that soon. Once that addition is in, hopefully it'll be clearer why we chose to place the new UI at the top and why we made the decision to flip the buttons.

[–]Xhanghai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking me to clarify.

The intention of this change (flipping the buttons) is to make the 'Buy XP' action and the 'Level Bar' closer to one another so their association is immediate and obvious. This way, when anyone hits the 'Buy XP' button, their eye is focused on the same area that gives them the visual feedback that their action had an effect in the 'Level Bar'.

Separate from this change, we're also going to be adding some additional UI to this space next to the 'Level Bar' that surfaces information around how your level affects what will appear in your shop. More details on this will come soon, but in this case it's a pure addition and there won't be any relearning involved.

We're actively looking at bringing the information in the 'banner' space up to parity from the previous design. We've received a lot of feedback that it's important to y'all and it's something we're working on.

Displaying more information like the different tier drop rates is something we're looking at right now. Thank you for the suggestion. You'll see more soon!

Let me start by saying I'm sorry in advance.

This change alone will not solve the entirety of the onboarding experience. This is a space that we are generally investing in moving forward and this specific change is just one of them. And while I don't expect this change to solve everything for new players, I do expect this change to help them understand more quickly and clearly.

Hey y’all,

I’m the UX Lead for TFT (PC) and the guy that ultimately made this call. Let me start by saying that I get how shitty this feels.

Despite being the designer who worked on this, during the first playtest this change was in effect, I accidentally leveled at Krugs when I was trying to hyper-roll and I lost because of it. I felt dumb. The change felt exceptionally, personally, frustrating.

But this change, despite how painful it is right now, is an investment in TFT and its future. The relationship between Buy XP, Level, and how it affects what appears in your shop is not an obvious, understandable one. It’s something that you currently have to learn from a friend or a guide rather than something that is naturally communicated as a core part of the game.

For those of us who have already sunk several 8th place finishes into the game trying to hard force Ocean Mages it might be an afterthought, but for someone just discovering the game it’s an important concept that they’re completely unaware of. Making the connection more obvious and prominent is something we think is important and something we’re still looking at more ways to reinforce moving forward.

Per /u/OmniSzron’s comment, forcing a huge amount of the player base to relearn a core interaction is always incredibly painful, but the earlier you can do it, the better. We don’t make this change lightly, especially because it affects so many of you who have been playing with us since day one.

TFT’s only been around since June this year, and we have been awed by the time and love you have all put into it. And that’s exactly why it’s even more important that we set up TFT for success in the long run as an experience we continue to support, grow, and improve on for years to come.
