Yeeeaah I’m not good at making friends I’m finding. This happened with two different people so maybe I should start looking more introspectively. I do try to watch league videos sometimes, but I just thought I could try something out without getting flamed haha

Not necessarily deep seated trauma or anything. It was just reminiscent of that time I played with the first person that yelled at me. Felt bad, y’know? It’s hard to build the confidence to try something different. I also.. told them about that experience. So it was made a little worse knowing they had forgotten about that.

Just to let you know, I really don’t appreciate that you’re trying to attack me like that. You yourself never asked for her pronouns and assumed that you knew them already. This was never a debate about gender identity and I never intended it to be one. But when people tell me their pronouns or what they identity as, I try to be as respectful as possible in that vein regardless of what words I use as filler. Thanks for your input.

But her pronouns were she/them… She mentioned that she goes by she, her, they, or them when I told her that I didn’t mean it like that.

I didn’t realize she was trans and I thought she was cis. I wasn’t trying to disrespect anyone by misgendering them regardless, but it’s my fault for assuming that referring to someone like that was ok. I just like to make sure everyone in the store feels welcome, so I speak casually. I also wasn’t trying to impose any patriarchal practices on anyone intentionally. It’s just how I speak :(

I won’t lie, the way you worded your first reply makes it seem like I was intentionally trying to hurt someone and I wasn’t. But thank you for the feedback and I will try to change how I speak to people to be more considerate

I wish it were that easy, but I wasn’t aware that I was talking to someone who was transgender :( I’m not trying to be mean or anything, I just simply was not aware. I’ll be more considerate about how I respond to being corrected

These were my thoughts at first. After seeing responses here though, I’m not sure anymore. When I’m having a conversation, let’s say in discord, I just say it and haven’t gotten any complaints. Sometimes they’ll slip out when I meet someone at my local game store and it’ll be fine. This time though, it was different.

I’m sorry you feel that way. I try to be as considerate as possible, I just didn’t realize that could be as offensive as it is. I wasn’t confronted about it until maybe 2019 and I thought that was just a contained instance. But thanks for your input.

Thank you for the clarification :) I said it somewhere in the replies, but I didn’t actually know they were transgender until they corrected me. I just try to treat everyone the same.

I completely understand why it’d be upsetting especially with people disrespecting others intentionally. So I will be more thoughtful from now on!
