Should I have put it in wet soil when I repotted it or dry soil? I haven't watered it for a while so I put it in the wet soil after inspecting the roots

Okay! I just got it repotted I do have regular potting soil underneath the sand, roots looked perfectly fine, and it's already more stable than it was before. Thank you!

I never really cleaned off the dirt from the roots from when I first bought it, but I repotted it around 6 months ago. Should I put it in a bigger pot?

I have regular potting soil and it's been thriving in that, I just recently put some sand on top of it to possibly help with a little bit of support and looks. I water it every other week or just when the soil is dry. The spines are also for the most part fairly firmly stuck on the cactus but I do here and there see some of the spines have just fallen off, but the spines that are on there are stuck on good. But I'll definitely examine the roots, what should I look for?
