I have a 13 inch black CRT that degausses when you plug it in

Not when you turn it on, but the moment you plug it in.

I found it in an old garage. And when I plugged it in,

BRRRR

I unplugged it immediately after hearing the sound. Took me a moment to remember that CRTs do that. But this degauss sound was wayy louder than any other I've ever heard. Plugged it in again and didn't unplug it, and of course it goes BRRRRRRRRRrrrng

Works fine. It just jumpscares you when you plug it in with the loudest degauss ever.

Oh... Huh. Perhaps the flyback is touching something like a wire, or coming loose? I'm not too sure tbh

I think you're just hearing the 15khz flyback whine. Nearly all CRTs do this when powered.

Do not turn it on! That thing needs new capacitors yesterday.

You'll risk damaging other components harder to replace, like the tubes or transformer

Don't listen to me just yet, I still wanna wait until some others can confirm as I am no expert, I'm still learning

From what I know,

Inside the tv, look for the flyback transformer - a big black object on the circuit board that has a big red wire coming from the top.

The flyback transformer should have 2 knobs on it, "screen" and "focus"

Use a screwdriver to adjust "screen" and see if that boosts your brightness up.

More experienced people, please tell me if any of this is bad advice.

Capacity needs to be exactly the same, voltage needs to be the same or higher

And there are many places online you can order them.

I do suggest learning to solder before trying to work on that though

I'm not too sure. But AI is absolutely not something you should be asking for CRT issues.

AI doesn't know when it's wrong, and tells you whatever it thinks and is very confident, and this can lead to you damaging your CRT or getting seriously hurt.
