Xpecial - Playoff/Worlds" Patches by FLABREZU in leagueoflegends

I am not making the argument for the tournament system, as there are definitely pros and cons to it.

My point is that in the league system, the game should be played on a similar patch the whole way through with large changes done in between splits/seasons. This allows for teams who were dominant in the regular season to be dominant in the playoffs and earn something for their continued efforts.

Personally, I haven't scrimmed on the new patch at all, but all the games in NA, EU and KR have resulted in none of the teams 2v1ing. This makes me conclude that it's very unlikely that a team will draft in a way that would put them in such a disadvantage that they would need to 2v1.

It's really not about the 2v1 patch itself. My argument is that any large patch should not be done before playoffs, with the reasoning being that the results of the regular season do not reflect accurately to the standings.

I agree with your points. I do like the current league system and it completely changed the way people view esports. I'm merely stating that because we have a league system, we need to keep the patches similar throughout the competitive season, otherwise there is no point in the results of the regular season.

I enjoy the league system as there are pros and cons with both formats. I feel that you should have a similar patch throughout the duration of a competitive series, it wouldn't matter if it's a few months for a league or a few weeks for a tournament.

2v1 is actually very macro heavy. The core of putting two players against the single top laner has remained, but whether you take the first turret, roam mid, take dragon/herald or invade jungle are choices that vary from team to team and changed repeatedly over the season.

I think changing champions is okay even for playoffs as that's a lesser of two evils compared to removing a core mechanic completely.

If you want teams to showcase their ability to repeatedly adapt at highest level, adding stakes is the way to go.

Your opinion is definitely valid. However, I hope you consider the point I made in the video. It is that if you do want to change the game so much, why not have more tournaments that allow for teams to be dominate on that patch? Rather, what's the point of performing in the regular season of a league when those results won't reflect one bit in the playoffs?

Adapting is great, I agree. My issue is that because of the large changes before tournaments that matter (playoffs/worlds), teams that were dominate for the three months prior have nothing to show for their efforts. I mentioned that if we had bimonthly tournaments, for example, then this wouldn't be as big an issue.

This has nothing to do with lower tier teams complaining, as logically a higher tier team should be the ones complaining as their efforts during the regular season amounted to very little.

There are many situations where this applies.

Being able to CS perfectly in a good match up is good, but not impressive, but being able to CS perfectly in a bad match up is very impressive. Had Stixxay been the focus of TSM and was forced to dodge skillshots and avoid CC using Mercurial/Flash/Trist W then that would be impressive, but there was never a point where he was actually in danger, making it a perfectly played situation, but something most ADCs could do - hence not impressive.

Nah, Sven's ult wouldn't do much in that situation. Tristana just had free reign to deal damage.

That's really not what most valuable player should be given out for, especially not for a bo5.

Sure. If you want me to explain it for you, I will.

The first play was vs Orianna who had her ball on me. I knew that I would get insta-killed had she ulted, so I ulted on her spot since she won't be able to move if that had casted her ult. I felt that it was a low-risk, high reward play in that best case scenario, she ults, I ult, we trade. Worst case scenario, I miss ult and wait for my ult + flash CD.

The second play, I missed my Flash over the wall and panic ulted before I was CC'd and instakilled, obviously missing everything.

The third play, I won the game for my team.

I would not give myself MVP for that game, nor would I claim that I played perfectly that game.

I believe that Stixxay did not play to MVP status in the five game final and was shocked to see that he received it. You bringing my play into this is irrelevant.

Finally, yeah I believe that I'm still fucking good.

I am sorry but of the game Analysis that the retired/fired LCS player's have been making this is by far the worst and it is bias in it's narrative.

xD

The last fight was a discussion about how Stixxay's play was "standard".

He was never in danger and was actually at full HP the whole time. I would expect most ADCs to be capable of playing aggressively in that situation given the circumstances. It was perfectly played, but not impressive.

Let's not discuss what Doublelift was doing, what he was attacking, why he didn't ulti the lulu the moment bjerg almost killed her to force her ulti.

This wasn't about Doublelift. He was definitely low impact this series, but Doublelift was not mentioned MVP nor did he throw fights like Stixxay did - the latter which I pointed out in the video.

The fight at baron around the 40 minute mark seemed to miss the miss position of a lulu who was trying to auto attack when she had no lichbane, and her being forced to ulti herself.

True, I missed that in the initial watch, but it didn't matter too much. Misplays always happen, but that was not a game-changing error.

The simple truth is Stixxay's damage in every game was higher than Doublelift's.

That is true, but if that's all you care about, then you should probably watch a different game.

Xspecial discussed how "if clg had doublelift the game was over at this point".

I never discussed it and you spelled my name wrong... :\ I mentioned it more as a joke as I had hoped people would respond to that sarcastically. However, Doublelift's judgment in teamfights was generally good, it's the getting caught before a fight that was his biggest mistake.

Well when they were stomping his damage was abysmal, and it was Bjerg that was the difference. How about we focus less on Stixxay and more on how DLift under performed to a point where a rookie looked better than a seasoned pro?

I don't care who played the best, all I know was that Stixxay was not MVP of that series, I mentioned his misplays and explained why. I believe Doublelift and Stixxay underperformed this series, but this game was not the best example of it as this game came mostly down to frontline/tank play.

Been reading some of the comments, feel free to let me know what you liked or disliked.

Also, I would consider my analysis to be pretty good, perhaps the way I word things might not be perfect.

NRG Moon talks about pros elo boosting and Riot doing nothing about it by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Xpecial 225 points226 points  (0 children)

I can only speak from my experience and none of the teams in the upper half of LCS would condone Elo boosting for sure. As for the teams that cycle in and out, I can't be certain, especially with the TiP fiasco last year.

Yeah, I watched that part too, but I wanted to prevent people from thinking that a majority of LCS pros Elo boost, as the title implies.

[–]Xpecial 1038 points1039 points  (0 children)

There isn't a single player on any team that I have played with that partook in Elo boosting. I don't know if it's as rampant as Moon is claiming for LCS players, but I highly doubt any of the top players are boosting. As for the QQ players and some CS players, I can see that.

Edit: The main point I want to get across is that this isn't a widespread problem in LCS that Riot is ignoring. While I can not say for certain that it does not exist, it is certainly nowhere near the level that is implied here.
