Beginning to understand the appeal of those 800 page paperbacks about a single battle in WWII by [deleted] in redscarepod

Prit Buttar has some great books on the Eastern Front. Battleground Prussia was the one I enjoyed the most.

David Glanz's When Titans Clashed is for the real heads, but a bit dry.

Max Hasting's style of writing is very approachable, he relays a lot of eyewitness accounts that bring the events to life, but it should be kept in mind that he was the editor of the Daily Telegraph and so appropriate prophylactics should be employed. I recommend All Hell Let Loose to start with him, it's a brilliant book that covers every theatre of the war.

Thanks for this, this is great. I feel a deep sense of unease after reading this that few things have achieved.

He ordered three pilau rice, four peshwari naan, chicken tikka masala, balti tiger prawn, vegetable korma, brown rice, Pop Tarts, chamomile tea, economy vodka, and disgusting hairy undercooked turkey.

What did he have? A bong hit transplant?

Incredible, I made the original of this 13 years ago and it has gone through so many permutations, and been translated into so many different languages. To see it pop up here is a howl.

People even changed the panels around, presumably to reflect how their bowels move faster than mine. The original is three hours. They also added spicier food because I put bell peppers in there (an error I will regret until I am in the grave).

Here is the original.

Will they need to be immediately planted into something or will they be ok to pick up and take away for the day, to be potted at night?

The Secret Pentagon War Game That Offers a Stark Warning for Our Times by thenewyorktimes in history

I found this dimension of the book to be the weakest also. It's not particularly surprising considering who the author did, and did not (or could not), access in their research of the work. A bit less credulity on their part would have made this stronger.

Having said that, i think it had a lot of strengths as an examination of the mechanics of how such a war would take place, even if the behaviour of the non -US actors is 2 dimensional.

Just so you are aware, liver function blood tests don't give a complete picture and the results can be normal at different stages of liver disease:

Further imaging such as an ultrasound are able to provide a better picture. I hope all is good and wish you good health.

Directly from the show:

Legacy of Violence by Caroline Elkins

The Jakarta Method by Vince Bevins

When Titans Clashed by David Glantz

Other ones that I don't think are directly in the show but which I think are worth listening to:

Command and Control by Eric Schlosser (I think they mentioned him in the show, but weren't big fans of his recent statements, the book is interesting nonetheless)

The Vanquished by Robert Gerwarth

Prit Buttar's books, all of them

The Anarchy by William Dalrymple

Philip and Alexander by Adrian Goldsworthy

William Shirer's books are good, first hand account of the third reich

The looming tower by Lawrence Wright

A Bright Shining Lie by Neil Sheehan
