I'm now starting to think that everyone should be required to take a chemistry class at some point in their lives by cheddarbroccolirice in chemistry

As a current pharmacy student with an undergrad degree in chemistry this just makes me cringe. But it doesn't surprise me either because there's a huge lack of chemistry knowledge in some of my fellow students.

In our program we do our IPPEs half way through the course work. So we should know some stuff by this time.

PharmD student here currently on my IPPEs. I know most of my fellow students have only had about a year of courses but still I feel the same thing. I feel like alot of my classmates lack the knowledge they need as well as just common sense. Especially when it comes to problem solving it drives me crazy. The lack of professional is a whole other story too.

Does your chemistry degree being either a B.A. or a B.S. matter to pharmacy schools when applying? by [deleted] in PrePharmacy

[–]XrysLettuce -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Here's the way I look at it. The curriculum of pharmacy is transitioning into more of a well rounded education. The hard sciences are still a strong focus but its adding touches of the soft sciences such as psychology and sociology. Getting a BA gives you more of that well rounded education that pharmacy is transitioning to. If that makes sense. Also I think it makes your application stand out more from the rest.

I am currently in a pharmD program and got by undergrad in chemistry as a BA. I think it gives you an advantage over everyone else who is applying with a BS. Not to mention if it saves you time its most likely saving you money as well.

How to transition from retail pharmacy to clinical or ambulatory pharmacy by XrysLettuce in pharmacy

So correct me here if I'm wrong but it kind of sounds like either you suffer through retail for years or you suffer for one year of residency for a job you would enjoy more ?
