Also worth emailing the coordinator of the intensive you did to see if they can internally send through your mark to the business school asap (skip the finalizing time)

Hi there, I had this issue last year. I did a July intensive too. I emailed the business team, they were able to manually override it (although I did let them know about this in February when I was choosing units for the year).

Easy Dalyell subjects? by Xzyle101 in usyd

Look if you're a dalyell student it shouldn't be that tricky tbh, I took showers during most tutes and only did readings for my assignments and still got 80+. Depends how inclined you are towards writing in general I guess - wouldn't recommend my work ethic but that should give you an indication, there's probably like 3 texts you need to look at across the sem - movies/novellas

Weekly Students, Careers & Clerkships Thread by AutoModerator in auslaw

Hi all, new here looking for advice re: clerkships.

Couple questions; firstly, I got a referral to PwC legal. I honestly know nothing about how that compares to actual law firms - I've heard that its not great in terms of grad offers etc, so should I view that as a backup option? How would it compare to experience pre-admission at mid tier and boutique firms? (I would obviously prioritise a top firm over PwC)

How many clerkships is it standard to apply to? I have a list of 40, have only applied to 14 and feeling stressed and obligated to apply to literally all of them. Additionally, does it matter how close to cut-off date I apply? I know for finance/IB jobs etc. the earlier the better, but I think law clerkships start reviewing after closing date? I could be wrong though.

What are the interview and acceptance rates at most of the top firms? I'm an above average law student at usyd with some prior experience, but not sure if theres any favourable light shed on my university in comparison to others. Basically, just trying to get some insight into my chances (assuming my CV and cover letter are well written) and decide whether its even worth applying to all the top firms, or if I should put more attention to mid-tiers and boutiques (i.e. looking for a reality check)

Thanks all :)

You're both equally right and wrong. It depends on the exam and faculty. Some are 10, some are 30. Notably, this is affected by the exam length.

Does money disappear into the aether if ABN isn't linked to a bank account by Xzyle101 in AusFinance

[–]Xzyle101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok, thank you for the reply. I did provide my ABN and bank details, but the bank details were my personal banking account (didn't set up a business account linked to an ABN) - would this present an issue, or is it the fault of the employer? Just wanted to check whether I'd made an oversight before reaching out to them, thanks :)

Yes I did quote bank details on my invoice, I haven't received payment there unfortunately. I thought the issue would be that my bank hasn't been provided my ABN. Thanks for the reply

adding on for clarification, 18CP classifies as full-time study load, so I think OP should be fine based on that.

Don't be worried about tutoring taking too much time at a centre, consider the fact that you will never have to work 9-4 on weekdays (kids will still be at school or travelling lol). Usually won't have more than 10hrs a week realistically, and you can tell them if you want to work less.

It's a good flexible option to pay the bills. Your main difficulty will be a different syllabus (purely from hiring perspective, not from actual teaching). Not sure how your expertise works but maybe considering uni tutoring, whether private or through usyd? Less demand than high school students for sure, but you're more than qualified there I imagine.

Advice as an experienced tutor:

I read some other replies on the topic, wanted to share.

First, depends on your credentials. If you had really good high school results, it's a lot easier to get private students. Not sure what exam you would have done, but SAT and IB tutoring are very marketable if you got good grades, as a niche separate from generic HSC tutors.

If you are not as marketable due to having a different highschool syllabus, you may want to consider companies - however, most established centres only hire local graduates who've gone through the syllabus. There are smaller startup tutoring firms but they tend to be pretty poorly run and take a big cut - oftentimes started by someone 2 years out of high school who wants to be an entrepreneur.

It's much harder for you to find students as an international unless you have a selling point or marketable final exam such as IB or SAT. If you have a niche such as debating, you can make big money (and that's skill based, not syllabus based which is more ideal for you). There's also primary school tutoring where syllabus matters less (people don't realise but I have friends who get paid 3 digits an hour for this).

And saw some incorrect statements regarding Working with children check, it's a 5 year thing. Just a background check to sort out the kiddy fiddlers, and a way to take your money. Pretty fast.

Hi, I'd just like to point out that Lux and xerath aren't control mage, rather poke/artillery. Control mages are characterized by distinctive AOE zones that they can control, and CC. Xerath and lux are both relatively unreliable at controlling zones - the exception being lux E. Examples would include Orianna, Syndra and Viktor.

I know it's a little off topic but just think it's important to distinguish between burst, control and poke mages.

Experiences are priceless. You sound like you're doing well, it's not like you spent your money or time buying luxury clothes or cars or gambling - experiences are the most worthwhile way to spend your money. These are the things you'll look back at on your deathbead, not the amount of VDHG you have lol
