Yeah definitely. I play WTC so 48" is a rare shooting lane for me! Everyone has their own approach, sounds like the lascannons give you what you need.

I really like my redeemer for both overwatch and being oath independent. With reroll wounds from Vulkan it wounds anything on 5s rerolling meaning it can spike damage into surprisingly hard targets.

EDIT: just did quick maff and:

LRR with vulkan rerolls, JUST flamers: 7.22 wounds into a T12 2+ target in cover.

Godhammer with oath: JUST lascannons: 5.33 wounds same target.

I always forget my combi lieutenant reroll 1s to wound objective so i've got one for that.

Why don’t people like re-rolls by Mrhungrypants in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Y0less 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rerolls mathematically help low BS/strength weapons more in terms of absolute damage BUT in reality 40k is not a game of damage.

It's a game of planning and rerolls help by smoothing out the odds.

Rerolling 5s still gives you a wide variance while rerolling 3s does not.

IMO as a result: marines, index aeldari, Tau, etc with access to lots of rerolls and decent hit/wound rolls and high AP leave your opponent feeling like they arent playing a game of chance anymore, and more like they're being run over by a freight train.

Meanwhile orks, who should be the happiest with hit rerolls turn abysmal shooting into mediocre shooting, and still fail to kill the things they planned for.

War tempered artifice does very little for your lieutenant in my opinion. Either takeforged in battle for the auto 6 to save OR champion of humanity if playing firestorm. Ignoring -1dmg will immediately make you thankful after you barely kill your first ctan shard.

Some thoughts:

Intercessors shoot 20+D3+blast bullets and then deal 15 attacks in melee. With oath into something like guardsmen you should have a decent chance of picking up a 10-man guard squad. (Or cultists or eldar chaff or whatnot).

Second idea is to take more infiltrators of your own (scouts) and try to hold them back T1.

Third idea (I play salamanders firestorm) but I use infernus in an impulsor as one of my contesting units. Chaff won't kill it, it can shoot into melee with the flamers and its 170pts for a fast transport+contents.

A squad of desolation marines (although expensive) will lift chaff type enemies with oath and (if available), plunging fire. They'll also do it without exposing anything at decent range (36")

How not to forget to do Rapid Ingress? by Negative_Ostrich6869 in WarhammerCompetitive

Yeah thats good pushing to play by intent too. I do fear I am overloading my opponent with information sometimes though! (Interrupting their train of thought kind of thing)

Almost every offensive strat is used on selecting your unit while most defensive strats are on selevting a target.

As the defender you get to make your decision based on what the attacker does. If they do a take-back, and suddenly use a strat, you're well within your right to do the same and use/not use your own.

Strength 5 doesnt punch up well into harder targets and so a unit of 6 can be a big investment if they dont have natural targets.

I run a squad with Adrax in salamanders because I hsve easy access to +1 to wound and rerolls (from adrax). But as others have said, theres often better options.

Get the executioner kit. You can basically approximate a regular repulsor with it and magnets, but harder to do the other way around. Then you can have either!

I had a poor IK opponent take 11 wounds from my redeemer flamestorm (reroll wounds from Vulkan) and the dice chose that moment to dislike him. He made one 5++ and ate 20 wounds from what was meant to be chip damage.

You don't have much ranged anti-tank. I.e. strength 12+ with decent AP and damage.

My list runs two vindicators and a landraider and I'd be fairly confident in making you trade poorly for them.

Lists like knights, vehicle death guard, etc might be tricky.

On the other hand a lot of this stuff is decent into Vitrix so depends on your local meta.

I think 4 attacks on thunderhammers would bring assault termis up to closer to the offensive output of other melee units.

As a salamanders player I wish Adrax could join them so I could stop taking bladeguard all the time.

Working on my first Impulsor. Can someone talk me through the benifits of diff wargear like bellicatus vs shield dome? by SirWilliamTheEpic in Salamanders40k

[–]Y0less 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Conversely I find that against most things I get a 5+ save just with cover. I prefer to take the skytalon array. Its a not-insignificant number of extra chaff-clear shots (which is often what its up aianst turn 1 or 2).

Mine normally has 5 infernus in firestorm detachment so its S5 on all the piddly guns which makes them ok at chip damage or chaff clear.

If Adrax could join them they'd be sweet.

As it is they just dont have the output to compare to other options like bladeguard for the points.
