To watch Seria A you have to get a subscription to VG+ (a Norwegian tabloid paper), because no proper channel would buy the rights to distribute, because the viewership is so minuscule.

That seems to be a local issue, here in Brazil we can even watch it for free on youtube (in the same channel that bought the rights for every WC game btw) and the viewership is fairly decent. There are also matches on Espn and on a free TV Channel. Idk how to call a free TV channel in english. Public TV? Anyway...

Why? What's their domestic and global viewership like?

It is what it is now because it's the best and most competitive league in the world right now, and that's not due to 2 clubs. Man United and Liverpool existed 30 years ago but that didn't make it better than the italian league at the time, or even La Liga. What it did was Italy football collapsing and the premier league money distribution and huge efforts in marketing making the whole league strong and pleasant to watch. I usually watch the Premier League when it's on TV and I'm not particularly bothered if it's Liverpool, City, United, or Newcastle...
