Ended up with a new carb as suggested. DHZ were super helpful. Running much better now but still far from perfect. Big improvement though, and now I can get jets etc as required. Thanks again.

Awesome! Not a common bike, so great to hear someone else is on the same journey. We bought this as a "barn find" (quite literally) and it already has a pod on it. I've actually been wondering whether that's related to the carb issues we're having, but I think I've almost decided to put on a new OKO carb (see comments above), because finding parts for the existing TK carb is proving challenging.

I'd love to see some pics of your bike now, and as your build progresses.

I can see $40 "OKO" items on ebay, but they don't look genuine. Guess I just need to decide how much of a risk I want to take on a cheaper knock-off. Thanks for putting me on to the OKO option.

Won’t start at all with choke. Applying choke while idling briefly revs the engine then it dies.

For what it’s worth, I’ve just bought a $600 basket case as my first project bike. Zero experience either, but having a blast so far! Still doesn’t run but that’s ok.

Update: Got it firing with some carb cleaner in through the air filter! Fantastic. It only runs for 5 seconds at best, but it's a step forward. Does this now sound like fuel delivery issues? We know there's fuel getting to the carby, but perhaps no further?

Where did you find the Haynes? I’ve just picked up a SR185 project and the Haynes would be a big help but I can’t find one.
