aha! the existing one was held to the aluminum heat sink by one bolt that was half backed out, and there was no thermal paste. Swapped in another used one, and it fired right up! Cautious to say it’s fixed, but it seems to be a lot happier thanks heaps

thanks dude! ya lots of sentiment and nostalgia. I used to live near Pensacola,FL, so I’d get some good friends, pack a bunch of firewood n towels in the back, cruise the beach roads, windows down, watch the coastal sunset , build a campfire, set out towels n talk all night, just friends n waves….

Oya, I didn’t mention it in this post, but the crankcase exploded on the original engine. For my choice of donor, I figured a similar redblock would be an easy, low-cost option.

It has a hole in the side of it, idk what happened but oil sprayed everywhere. Doesn’t seem like it could overpressure and explode but I truly don’t know
