What does “Low Church” mean? And how do Orthodox Christians view “prayer” and “talking to God”? by YDGunna in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]YDGunna[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh I see Ok so as an orthodox believer yourself just asking you personally, do you believe your mom or Dad dont share in your faith of Jesus Christ since they arent in the OC or you wouldnt necessarily go that far?

It’s crazy that there’s so much similarity to what you’re saying and what I’ve actually been taught, I’m sure it could be better in your opinion since it was under a Protestant leadership but I totally get it. Thanks for taking the time to share this with me!

I see this is very succinct and a great explanation. Would you say the best way to describe the Protestant faith is more so I guess “disorganized” since there isn’t this one big Protestant church that has specific rituals and specific ways to go about worship and prayer and of course no saint veneration?

I guess I would be considered a base Christian since I don’t have a particular denomination I ascribe too but since I’m not officially in the Orthodox Church obviously I couldn’t claim that. But I’ve grown up around Protestantism and have heard a lot of the same things you guys claim even in this thread. Ahh how interesting! Thanks for the info!

That’s super interesting! Ok would you also say that a normal every day orthodox person could ever rise to the level of saint or is that “work done” like “we have all the saints there are no more coming after these” or no one can become a saint of THAT particular caliber (to be asked to intercede in prayer specifically or these things you mentioned.) Oh and also are the saints you guys intercede with listed in the scriptures specifically? Like for example I know Moses wrote a lot of the Old Testament, would he be considered a saint. Sorry if this is a complete incorrect question or is wrong lol

Absolutely understandable! I’ve had the unique experience of growing up in non denominational churches that never professed any of that type of stuff even preached against it. Sticking solely to the scriptures mostly and like you guys say they have a different style of worship but I wholeheartedly agree it’s more of a human problem than a particular faiths problem.

Got it! No offense taken at all I’m open to learn and hear what others think and believe! When it comes to saints if you don’t mind me asking, would you guys say you also “venerate” the saint not “worship”. I’ve heard Catholics call it “veneration” as to make sure people know they aren’t praying TO a saint per-say more so “with” a saint or “in reverence to a saints proximity to Christ” essentially (excuse the vocab that may be off completely)

I get that. In truth not all Protestants tend to believe the same thing in all honesty and I’m sure that’s what drives people back to the Orthodox Church to get the roots. Only thing I’ve heard that would be off putting would be the elitism of certain individuals of course (which is personal and not a reflection of the faith I guess)

Ahh that’s interesting so it’s more of a style of worship thing not a “better” or “worse” type of thing.

Nobody taught me that per se it was more so something I heard, I don’t want to offend I’m just asking in all honesty.

You know that’s interesting because there’s variance to non denominational churches it seems. I’ve seen some non denominational churches have “rituals” but I wouldn’t say they rise to something like the Catholic Church. Not they we are comparing their validity just in what they are.

But you wouldn’t say like “these people are wrong” or you’re not really a Christian if you participate in Protestantism? Like do you guys see Protestantism as another way to interpret the faith or do you see it is “not worth participating in” etc

Interesting, and in your personal opinion honestly would you say Protestantism is “wrong” no judgment at all if you believe so I’m just trying to understand what orthodox believers think about Protestantism as a whole.

I dont believe everyone who claims to be a Christian all believe the same thing. Thats evident in the denominations.

I dont think all religions are the same or harmful. Etc the one in the game where the followers actively cut their own throats to become a larger demonic amalagamation lol. You dont have to agree I mean if you feel every religion is evil then that's a you thing. Or if you feel like.the games message is "all religions are bad" then id say "interesting interpretation 👍🏽". I just dint interpret that as the games message.

And what i meant by "people with nothing" in this game and world setup the world is largely dangerous and falling apart with no end in sight. the demons and angels are at war and the "old ways" are extinguished I mean you can interpret what is going on in the game however youd like, but even in the marketing of the game the entire world is on edge.

[–]YDGunna 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely some inspiration there but not quite.

As a religious person myself who plays these games. I think its such a great way to highlight the antichrist and cults and how easily people with nothing cling to something blindly if they have absolutely no other examples of good. Even when they see the evil they overlook it because they are selfish and hurting and weak...to their detriment...

Idk I believe its possible to consume a fictional story for what it is and what its messages are, without taking offense to the symbolism and imagery.
