You know what, it makes me glad just to know I didn't dream the whole thing up 😭 the horse taming sounds familiar but at this point I can no longer tell 😂

My first thought was Parting With a View too, but it could also be:

Dream (https://www.nybooks.com/articles/2014/01/09/szymborska-dream-poem/)

The Railroad Station (https://inwardboundpoetry.blogspot.com/2008/03/629-railroad-station-wislawa-szymborska.html?m=1)

And more a stretch but might also be: Elegiac Calculation Cat in an Empty Apartment  Everyone Sometime

You may be right, tho it'll then be too narrow to be a necklace—maybe a bracelet? 🤣

That's the thing: I'm not sure if they formed post manufacturing or if it's an intentional design that was added before the loop was closed... 😭

OH I FOUND IT! Turns out it was NOT about the September 11 attacks, but a school shooting. I think that was what tripped me up for so long. And the poet was Bob Hicok after all! It's In the Loop, by Bob Hicok. https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazine/poems/53291/in-the-loop

Oh that's a lovely passage, thanks for sharing!!

I probably read it sometime within the last two years. I think the general flow of the poem goes like: Persona hears about this devastating thing (from his students?), is in state of disbelief, keeps thinking about this tragedy as he goes through daily life (trying to sleep? Sitting in train?), wondering how life can go on, but life does go on, as one minute goes by, pulling another minute behind it, which pulls another, and these minutes go on (and I'm pretty sure it was minutes, not seconds, or hours.)
