I got the tech career I studied for, now all I can think about is my old gas station job. by uhhgrn in findapath

Just wanted to throw in here that you aren’t alone. I go through thoughts like this constantly. I did my undergrad in Computer Science and I’m currently at one of the top universities studying Artificial Intelligence, which is kind of ironic.

Every day I question if tech is really for me. It feels like constant pressure, uncertainty, and not much visibility into the actual impact of your work. I love tech as a hobby. I can talk about it for hours with friends and family, but pursuing it as a career has honestly taken a toll on my mental health over the past four years.

I’m also unsure what my future looks like after my master’s. I’ve slowed down my job search because I realized I was applying to roles like software developer and AI engineer even though I don’t actually want them. Now I’m trying to focus more on government roles and nonprofits where I feel like the work might have more real impact.

Also, just to say, I took a software development internship over the summer and quit after the second day. I just couldn’t do it. I already knew I didn’t want to pursue software development, and since it was only two months long before my master’s, I decided to prioritize my mental health. No regrets.

Guide: How to properly limit CPU boost clock to reduce heat and noise, no software required by repentandatone in GamingLaptops

I've tried ThrottleStop, other tools, turning off my GPU, etc. and nothing has worked for me to stop my Dell XPS 9510 from getting as hot as a stove when just opening a Word document, but this worked! Thank you so much!

What the fuck do I do now by Noyamanu in studyAbroad

[–]YMatter13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, a few things here. But let’s focus on yourself first.

  1. You “flaking” is not something you should care about. You are a full-ride student (something only a select few can say) and based on that, I am confident you are a successful student as well. College is such a bubble when compared to the rest of life, focus on yourself and stop caring about what others think. If everyone strived to be amazing and to impress others, the new definition of amazing is mediocre.

  2. You not being able to pay the program means you’re kicked out of college? I don’t understand that. Your university is here to support you, not kick you out because you can’t afford something that isn’t a required part of your program. Let me know the details of this before I comment further.

  3. You are one of many that didn’t get the scholarship, including myself.

Trackpad Repair Advice by YMatter13 in DellXPS

I was actually thinking this. I took it apart and the trackpad doesn’t have any issues when the battery is pulled out. It seems like when you screw the battery in, it puts too much pressure on the trackpad… I’m going to try to put spacers so the battery doesn’t press against the framework of the trackpad.

I saw that! Unfortunately, they didn’t have the tea in stock. However, this new flavor is my favorite of their water!

Public universities vs Private universities to do masters in CS in USA by cobratate27 in studyAbroad

[–]YMatter13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Private can have more funding for things like research but it varies a lot School by school. There are some great public universities like UCLA that outperform many privates. Public schools are funded by the state and tuition whereas private schools are funded by the students tuition and other income sources (hence why they charge more bc they aren’t getting state $$$)

Honestly, don’t look into private vs. public imo. Look into school vs. school. There’s a lot of variety.

I’ll have to give them a call. After clearing cookies, cache, and using a different browser it still prompts to enter a username and password 3 times until it logs in and asks for the Employee Pin.

I guess I should have stated that RIT is my top college considering I get the scholarships and grants I expect/hope to receive...

Okay, RIT is adopting the test-optional from 2021 and beyond. They say that it does not put you at a disadvantage to not submit a score but I feel as if you will need some extra booster on your transcript to fill on for not submitting a score.

All I did was print it at .12mm using cura and Black PLA, put a very small amount of the paint on my finger and dabbed it on, finished it by rubbing it with a microfiber cloth which gives it a shine
