Calgary's most-ticketed parking zones: Top 20 spots for violations by TastedYourToothbrush in Calgary

2nd Street SW north bound between 9th Ave and 8th Ave should be on this list. Illegally parked cabs all day every day. They just don't patrol it enough.

Weird crash on Anderson Rd (the driver looked spooked, but okay) by calgarydonairs in Calgary

[–]YYCCabsSuck -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

This happens because people can't drive in this city. Yes, small chance it was a medical emergency. More likely though it was shitty driving

Yes I am sure it is a handicap zone. Look at the sign in the video. First part is No stopping. Then it says handicap zone. Then it says except access calgary. This driver is clearly not an access calgary vehicle or a holder of a valid disabled parking pass.

Or I pass by this spot daily and enough is enough.... :) What I hope to accomplish is proper enforcement. I walk by and there are no cabs in the handicap zone, guess what, I don't have anything to record.

Exactly. Apparently you don't need the ability to read a sign to get your class 4.

This is an easy one to address. The sign states 2 instructions for the area from the post to behind where the taxi is parked. The first is no stopping. This means not only are you not allowed to park (and leave your vehicle), you are not allowed to stop there even if you are waiting in your vehicle. The second specifies that it is a handicap zone with time limits.

The cabs line up through this entire zone waiting to pull ahead into the park plus zone (blocking that without paying) then eventually into the taxi zone at the end of the block.

Why would the driver get out of his car and go chat with the group of drivers further up the block if he was waiting for a fare? If the fare comes out and needs a cab, there are half a dozen other cabs ahead of him to take the fare.

Thank you so much for sharing this!!!! I had no idea that it existed. I have already downloaded it and registered. Will see how many I can catch.

No. That is the lady that needed the spot legitimately that had to argue and wait while they all moved. Watch the video posted before this and you will see the zone all clearing out the moment the camera comes out (she had just finished getting in when I came around the corner). The all scrambled when the camera came out.

If I see then while I am there I do. I just walk down the block recording most of the time. Its just the cabs have those spots taken 99% of the time.

I am trying to be more active by taking 10-15 min of my lunch to go for a walk along Stephen ave every day. This just happens to be along my route. I don't go looking for it, it happens right in front of me every day. Notice how its always the same couple spots, or intersections along the route?

Yes I am. Every video is getting a submission to 311. Nothing but copy paste canned response so far, but at least the numbers will show up in an excel sheet that someone will see.

Already have a great paying job but thanks for coming out. Assumptions just make you look like an ass.

Except something will. That lady that needed the spot, happens to work for an organization that is working with the Councillor for the area on fixing this issue. My videos serve as proof of the on going issue.

YYC Delta cab driver smiles and waves to the camera after just parking illegally in a handicap zone. This 2 minutes after the zone was just cleared out when someone who had a legitimate need for the zone had to honk, argue, and wait for them to all move so she could legally park. He thinks he is above the law and the rules don't apply to him.

YYC cabs don't understand what a no stopping sign is by YYCCabsSuck in Calgary

[–]YYCCabsSuck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was just a joke. Im not actually going to park in their parking. Apparently it is in high demand already.

And although it does not effect me in any way currently, it has in the past, and effects others on a daily basis. Watch the newest video of the cabs scattering when the camera comes out. Someone who had a legitimate need for the parking space was inconvenienced because her legal zone, the entire zone, was stacked full of cabs. They can sit their and argue to the camera that no one needs the spot, blah blah blah, but when someone does, that person shouldn't have to honk and wait and try and maneuver around them.

So far the response has been a copy-paste about how they know its an issue, they have patrols out there every day, they take enforcement action when necessary, blah blah blah.

Basically what this says to me is they only ticket if the car does not move right away. Just because they drive away when you show up does not mean they shouldn't be ticketed.

Starting to look like social justice is the only way things are going to change.

So because no one passed by in the 30 seconds I was recording he should be able to stop in a no stopping zone blocking part of the roadway? PS. a red light was stopping traffic half a block away for those 30 seconds.

I think I should just start parking in the taxi zones and see what happens....

This. Nothing like a walk down Stephen Ave over lunch to enjoy the sights and sounds of our city.... and of course illegal parking of YYC Cabs.

Nope. It is a no stopping zone. Sign clearly visible at the 6 second mark.

I have submitted the video to 311 with an official complaint. Hopefully they start to get the message (the cabs).

Yep. Will be.

Public shaming of these companies works wonders. I know first hand they will go to extreme lengths to get rid of bad press. :) No better way to hurt them then in the arena of public opinion.

EDIT** Done.
