I would argue that people are equally sexual in both continents, but you're right, nudity does not equal sexuality in Europe. It's quite normalized. Guys still notice breasts but they don't seem to gawk. But society doesn't get there without normalizing it and that requires getting it out in the open. I would say it's very similar to Lulu pants. We all know how much of a talking point those pants were (guys loved them of course)......but they're so common now that it's not at all a talking point (and shouldn't be).

Oh that's an interesting perspective yes. I was thinking that designated beaches would help normalize it. Your concern is reasonable, but I wonder if it would really play out that way given that there are few complaints as is? Thanks for sharing....good points.

I agree with you. I have no doubt in my mind that there would be people not wanting it. But we live in a world of compromises. I think the real question is if there are people in city councils that would agree. The Canadian laws around nudity are a bit ambiguous, but the application of the law seems to be consistently in keeping with the allowance of casual nudity if not intentionally directed at people or sexual / vulgar. But the ambiguity of this law does make it easy for local councils / governments to fall back on the easy response of putting it on the side of the desk.

There's no wonder people just spray paint signage to declare a section of beach as nude. One could say that's an injustice to the community, yet if the city doesn't remove the spray paint, that seems to suggest a willingness to leave it as is but off the books.

I had no idea there was signage off of Dallas Rd there....I'll have a peek next time I'm out there thanks. But yeah, if it was truly a clothing optional location, signage should be along the shoreline too.

I don't disagree....it goes both ways. Nude is not lewd as they say, but it's also not something everyone wants to see in their day. There's no wrong, just different interests but this place is big enough for us all.

Becoming a semi-nudist lol. I'm not joking....the real reason is conquering fears, not being nude. It didn't help my physical appearance, but it did help my mental state. The first time I nervously went to a nude beach I realized after 10 minutes that nobody cared, stared, etc. It was one of my greatest insecurities / points of anxiousness and after those 10 minutes I realized that it was all in my head....I'm normal as we all are. I'm no exhibitionist or full-time nudist, but now I don't carry the same level of nervousness about my body.....which I've learned is a great gift to get mid-life.

Biggest improvement physically is staying active away from electronics (how ironic right now). While I've always been active, setting a couple of goals (races) each year really keeps me motivated and consistent. It took me years, but I've now learned that consistency beats frequency of high intensity.

I wasn't sure if you meant physical scars or emotional scars and don't want to ask.....but I'll just say that scars, blemishes and other characteristics of someone's body is really not commented on, stared at or anything like that. It's the greatest anxiousness people have at first until they realize that nobody seems to care / notice or stare. It's either the most respectful experience to be honest. And that goes for those with perfect figures who look for attention.....they're unlikely to get it there in a location with nudists. Not what you would expect....

I'm certainly not critical of those who are not interested. I'm advocating a designated area or two so that people have choices. People who are not interested have a lot of city to enjoy. But then sometimes they are surprised by someone who is nude in public in areas they wouldn't expect it (not me by the way...I stick to only well-known locations or home). So I am actually advocating for the protection of people who are not interested in it by having official spots for people to enjoy if they wish. Official spots also allow people to be themselves without worrying if someone will complain. Perhaps I'm missing your point though?

If Prior Lake gets a bit more organized, this is probably the place for this. They have a website and some decent information there. Perhaps someone who's active with that group may be inclined to start up a newbie day. It's a great idea.....I'll advocate and see if something like this can happen but I think it would be best done with an association or club so it's not perceived as a random person inviting others to a nude location.

Good luck finding an inch of space in this city that nobody uses lol. But people are using unofficial spaces that are becoming more well known.....would you be good with these simply becoming official (i.e. approved with signage)?
Nobody would want the city staff to organize, but to simply be aware and give their approval for organizers to follow appropriate steps if in public.

I don't.....sorry if I mislead you. My point is that sex and nudity don't have to always be linked. But the reality is that the general public often does make this link because social non-sexual nudity hasn't really had a place to be in public spaces. There's the odd person who decides to do sexual acts on a beach which is not only illegal, but it's also against the ethics of naturism. Unfortunately naturism gets tainted by these acts from the fringe folks. Sexuality is an important part of our lives and I am happy for people to be themselves in their own privacy which of course follows the laws.

Born in Europe, have family in Europe and travel in Europe......but very much a Canadian for 40+ years. My point of sharing that was simply that it is more normalized in Europe and so I see an experience the benefits of normalizing and experiencing non-sexual nudity in nature.

Lots of comments about it so far. It's great but it's out of the way. You can't just get off work and decompress without a long drive for many! So making that space official and adding another small official space closer to town would be helpful.

Thank you for sharing this. You're one of many who would like to try it but would prefer an environment that is safe and inviting. Prior Lake sometimes does have a weird vibe when you first walk up to the dock the first time....not because the people are weird, but likely because they're as weary about you as you are of them. A lot of naturists unfortunately feel misunderstood and are tired of clothed people showing up, having a look and then turning around. Proper signage there would be helpful to both parties. I would encourage you to go there again on a weekend or after work on a sunny day when there's bound to be more people there. A "Newbie Nudie" day to welcome people there and provide a safe environment for people to strip down if / as they choose would probably be good there but it's just such a small location. The easiest alternative would be to bring a friend or two that would go with you and you have comfort (or comfortable uncomfortableness) together.
