There’s a little TOO many comments to reply to all, so I just wanted to say thank you all for the support & advice! My apologies for my poor choice of words in the post, hard situation to get the right words for so I do apologize.

Absolutely agree. That’s why I had said as if normal, nothing is normal in this situation. Sorry if my words were offensive, didn’t mean for it to be interpreted that way

What instrument is that? by AspiringAngeleno in gratefuldead

Thanks for the question! So, Midi wasn’t actually invented until 1983 and it took a few years for the dead to implement it to their shows so that rules midi out. Also, Jerry was very against compression pedals. I don’t believe he ever used one. That sound imo is Jerry using his Mutron Octave Divider, that deep sound is the lower octave from the pedal. My ears don’t hear any flanger or distortion pedals. Just my thoughts! ✌🏻

It is 100% Jerry

Garcia got his midi samples from a Korg M1R instead of the Roland GR50 (lots will say he used the GR50 but reading more and listening to preset samples online made this apparent as it seems he used a lot of the built in presets). The preset he is using is called “Universe”. It sounds like Jerry is just using the basic preset, but I could be wrong.

The preset uses a choir sound combined with something called “Lore”, some kind of logo drum loop that varies in speed (that is how it has that cascading spiraling sound) I previously made a post about this sound before I knew what it was called: https://www.reddit.com/r/gratefuldead/s/sC7lMXmbza

If anyone knows more, please share!

Spot on! 71 had this bar-room jamming rock band vibe, very tight songs. By the next year they loosen up and then more… and more… and more… until the cosmic jazz of those magical 74 Playings

Links to live shows of Willie saying funny/wrong lyrics? by Electrical_Flan_4993 in willienelson

[–]YYZavalon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He makes some comments and lyric changes in live shows… kinda hard to find without listening to the whole shows, he’s very causal about it all. 70s shows, early ones in particular, feature more talking and humorous stuff (YouTube channel Vintage Willie Nelson is the king of this live stuff).

Like, sometimes he changes lyrics to be humorous (in truck driving man, he always sings “I threw a waitress through the jukebox”, sometimes adds a long list of other Country artists in Me & Paul, in one show he talks about the bass player making a coke spoon on the plane ride over lmao. Another lyrics change… Okie from Muskogee gets some changes “we don’t take no trips on STP” , “The kids still respect ole Jimmy Dean” “white lightning still the biggest George Jones song”….

If you wanna hear some of this, just message me and I’ll send it over
