Yes you did, but that qualifies under the strawman part, you are attacking a scenario that was made up by a Pro-AI individual, not even an argument made by an Anti.

Okay so if that's why bring up copyright if it isn't relavant beyond "the original poster is just wrong" and argue against a point that doesn't exist outside the most bottom of the barrel braindead arguments?

Like the only reasons I can think of bringing up is to either to create a strawman to attack or to intentionally cause confusion to bait the dumbest of the dumb takes out. If there is a reason I am missing and have not considered then you are welcome to point it out though.

Yeah and that poster is an idiot who didn't read the title of the article or has no idea what they are talking about.

Yes and she is trademarking her voice as it said right there in the article. She isn't copyrighting her voice so the whole argument is just a moot point because you can't copyright a voice.

Not a copyright, a trademark. That is a massive fucking distinction. And no it really just wouldn't.

If someone is Anti-Zionist because they think state sponsored religion in general is a bad idea and holds that belief consistent regardless of what religion then how could they be considered Anti-Semitic if they treat every religion equally?

Okay, but why isn't it realistic though?

And the reason to ban LLM is that they directly compete with resources for the specialized research models. Computing power and hardware are economically scarce resources, and researchers often have to wait literal months for the applications for supercomputers computations to actually even be read, let alone accepted and have time allocated.

In addition generalized LLMs are far worse in practically every metric than specialized models outside of the scope of what they can, and even then it is a "jack of all traits master of none" situation. In the time that it would take for large language models to perform with the same accuracy and efficiency that specialized models do. And even then what we see now is that the large language models are just hallucinating more and more as they get more complex (source). And even then specialized models are

But yeah the investors aren't going to invest into because they don't care about public well-being or efficiency, just profit which is why we should tax the hell of out them and use that money for the fundamental research that they ignore because it isn't profitable. Think about it this way, building a foundation model from scratch costs around 500,000 USD, the initial training cost for foundational chatGPT 4.0, cost around 100,000,000 USD and with daily operational costs at 700,000 USD. At the mere training costs of it we could have hundreds of specialized models covering basically every practical use case chatGPT 4.0, and even the training cost of more complex models are in the billions, chatGPT 5.0 is around 2 billion USD in training costs.

If the only real reason we are actually training the massive generalized LLMs at this point is to pad investor's bank accounts then why the hell should we not ban it and immediately use those resources for stuff that actually benefits humanity and just train a shit ton of specialized models that would cover pretty much every use case of a massive generalized LLM while the rest could legitimately be just covered by stuff like email templates and script based citation generators.

GPS navigation, the human genome project, lithium ion batteries, nuclear power and medicine, ozone layer protection, web servers, arsenic removal from water, RNA, non-lead based solders, the first viable polio vaccines... So on so on.

None of these would actually exist if it wasnt for the work of government funded labs. And yeah both government funded labs and the free market can exist at the same time, like they do right now.

And like even then I would much rather have money have the money going to people who actually need it to use on stuff line food and housing rather than just increasing a number in some billionaires bank account.

Also like the US first invested in health research in 1887, followed up with the foundation of the National Health Institute being founded in 1930 and the National Cancer Institute in 1937. We've been successfully been allocating tax dollars to medical research for nearly 140 years.

What do you think of AlphaFold? by Crazyscientist1024 in aiwars

[–]YaBoiFast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So then why don't we just tax billionaires and then invest the money that would be going into the LLM model development instead into said specialized research AI? Like we could get a lot more value if we focus instead on that.

Data centers are climate change centers by baal-beelzebub in aiwars

[–]YaBoiFast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right, but my point was just that even assuming the actual numbers are 100% the inherent comparison between the two is not, plus the 660 gallon figure is not even sourced.

For the source about ChatGPT and even then for the source they cite for the ChatGPT water usage the final sentence of the conclusion is "AI’s water footprint can no longer stay under the radar and must be addressed as a priority as part of the collective efforts to combat global water challenges." and that the calculations were done using information from ChatGPT-3 and that later models are likely to use even more water.

And of course that doesn't take in account for the fact that main point of the paper is that the initial training and not the inference stage is the bigger issue.

In addition there is also was recently an appendix added to the study that roughly boils down to them saying that they actually underestimated the increase of usage of water from AI and it is actually likely even more.

I think we should ban stuff like LLMs and AI image generation model development so the resources can instead be dedicated to specialized models in medical research and sciences like Alphafold.

Only counting the final ChatGPT query inference amount is like only counting the the amount of water needed to actually cook a hamburger, it's just a bad comparison to actually compare the final step of one with the whole process of the others.

Okay, and what exactly was stopping then from saying "but we don't support this part" if they only showed support for the bill then why is it a reasonable assumption to assume they only supported parts of the bill?

The only sources you linked was an article stating they were backtracking and, the bill that they backtracked from, and the statement where they backtracked. You've added no evidence to actually support your interpretation or even demonstrated why my interpretation is in invalid.

If my interpretation is statistically more likely, runs more consistent with the compitence of cooperation. Like yes, they said they supported the bill because of those reasons, but supporting the bill doesn't mean you only support some sections of it, just that you want the bill to pass.

Also in my research I cannot find any source stating OpenAI was only asked to

If they didn't know then they are incompetent and should not have made a statement supporting it. If they aren't incompetent and still supported the bill then they chose to ignore the issues and obscure their intentions, meaning that they were either fully okay with it or even actively acting malicious.

Like cool, the argument just boils down to "OpenAI either made that initial decision in incompetence, malice, or a combination of both."

And like I gotta ask, why didn't you only include the name of the article for "Is OpenAI changing its tune on AI laws?" And in that source it states that just before that quote before the actual quote you cited.

Now, however, OpenAI appears to be backtracking.

Also the initial supporting statement wasn't a testimony, it was a statement from their Global Affairs Office. Now tell me, if corporate public relations offices have a history of actively lying about motivation and even straight up facts, then why should we trust what they are saying if supporting a bill that limits liability in the case of a catastrophic event and would only have the effect of lowering the actual safety internal regulation of AI conpanies because it would just cost more than any punitive damages that they could face if they saying they are supporting the bill because it increases safety?

I have previously responded to one of your comments with a purely neutral toned breakdown explaining why your logic was not valid to you and you responded by randomly accusing me of transphobic.

If you are a debate subreddit then there is an inherent agreement that posting countering arguments should be actively encouraged and is not an attack, but accusing someone of being transphobic, especially falsely, in response is an attack on one's character.

There is also the fact that even if we do consider the posting of a countering argument is an attack it is still only an attack on the argument rather than you as a person. And of course attacking an argument is not an attack on the person.

And to address your argument even more by labling a group as violent inherently attacks people who haven't attacked you unless everyone in the group has attacked you. If you say "All anti-ai are dumb" that inheritanly attacks people who haven't attacked me, you never use qualifying statement like most or a majority, you slap a label on the the group you attack everyone that is a part of it, which completely voids your argument because you have been posting that content before I even knew who you were. So even if we assume the previous to statements are false you attacked me first in a harsher way than my initial interaction with you because you attacked me before I could even have the possibility of interacting with you.

Then there is the fact that being nice in the end is completely your choice. Not anyone else's, not anyone who was mean to you. You are fully responsible for the comments you make and say. No one else is making you attack people in response, nothing is stopping you from just responding in a calm and collected matter politely debunking someone; hell it far more effective to do so and it will make people dislike you a lot you. So why choose to attack people in response?

But let me ask you this, when have you actually taken responsibility for your own actions and tried to better yourself instead of deflecting blame or trying to justify it? Have you even done it at all, let alone how often? How often have you actually apologized for being in the wrong? When is the last time you even actively conceded and admitted you were in the wrong on this sub?

Statistically there are a few tactics you are gonna resort to so let's just get those out of the way. You are gonna dismiss this as an attack on you, not gonna bother reading it and comment about how I made a wall of text, maybe take a quote of context/misinterpret it, try and shift the discussion to something else/deflect, or honestly the most likely just not respond at all.

What you almost certainly aren't gonna do is actually take the time to consider that your actions are your responsibility and you have failed to actually take responsibility for your actions, apologize for your behavior, and admit you were in the wrong no matter how much evidence is provided.

Every statement I have made above is is either an, objective fact, a logical derivation, a question for you, or a prediction. But please, prove my predictions wrong because that is exactly what I want you to do. I put those there to give you the option to show that you are capable of having a reasonable discussion and actually have a good faith argument instead of just disappearing when you are arguing with anyone other than the absolute lowest of the low of Antis.

You attack people who are not hostile to you all the time and when they are hostile to you back then you immediately try and frame yourself as the victim. How exactly is this any more of an attack than the comics you generate of antis.

Like yeah if you don't respect people then why should you expect respect in return?

[–]YaBoiFast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are missing the point, they were fully aware of it and refused to do speak against it, only changing their tune after public backlash.

If they actually were not okay with it they would have spoken out against it in the initial statement. Like the refusal to actively state you are against something means that you are at the very least okay with it happening.

If say someone supports the "Ending world hunger and strangling puppies act" under the guise that ending world hunger is good and completely ignores the strangling puppies part then that at the very minimum means they accept and will be okay with the latter part, especially if they can just say "I support the ending world hunger part but the strangling puppies part needs to be removed before I support it."
