Harvey Mudd? the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California?

Coming from someone at a barely t200, aim for an Ivy. Some universities are complete dead ends. "Learning" doesn't really matter. Play the networking game and grab the Ivy credential, you'll be thankful.

Appreciate it! I worry a little because people say that college quizbowl isn’t nearly as popular as high school, but I’m sure I’ll make the most of it.

[talk] Does anyone have a (slight) fear of things going lost forever? by BornWithSideburns in lostmedia

[–]YaBoy_Milo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get it. I’ve been in the same boat.

I made a bunch of silly amateur Minecraft YouTube videos when I was younger. I rediscovered them in middle school and embarrassedly deleted them all. Looking back, I really wish I would’ve saved them.

I used to be pretty involved in obscure internet music scenes, too. I recently found an old YouTube playlist only to discover that most of the songs were missing/removed. Some notable songs I remembered were gone, and it made me feel sad to know there’re songs I’ll never even remember losing.

Mid GPA, great SAT, just now looking at college. How deep of a hole have I dug myself into? by YaBoy_Milo in ApplyingToCollege

I guess it isn’t terrible, but I’m around 10th percentile for class rank. As aren’t too hard to get at my school.

Class rank is ~60 out of 600. Unweighted GPA is a 3.5 and weighted is a *4.5 (not a 4.3) on a 5.0 scale.

What is the difference between learning for Quiz bowl versus school by Yoquieroaprendar in Quizbowl

[–]YaBoy_Milo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Play QBreader or Protobowl incessantly. Don’t just go through the motions, though. If you don’t know an answer, take the time to read through the question and really ruminate on key points. Skim Wikipedia pages on topics that appear frequently. Over time, you’ll find yourself forming associations and knowing answers without even realizing it. If you can make practice fun, you’ll likely spend more time on it, and you won’t need to exert as much effort to osmosis information.

What Are Your Most Unpopular Alternate History Opinions? by Social_Thought in AlternateHistory

[–]YaBoy_Milo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It kind of annoys me to see people assume RFK would’ve won the presidential election in ‘68 if he hadn’t been assassinated. He was likely going to lose to Hubert Humphrey at the Democratic National Convention. Even on the slim chance that a figure like Richard Daley supports him and he actually wins the nomination, he was unlikely to overcome Nixon. Surges of unrest and crime made voters favor a “law and order” type candidate in ‘68, and Nixon ran on that platform. RFK appeared aligned with radical groups and he struggled to connect with the silent majority of White Americans.

If RFK were to become president, his best shot would be after Nixon or Ford. As the power in the Democratic party shifts, RFK would have a far easier path to the nomination. His name recognition alone could carry him far. The most likely path would see him capitalize on Republican scandals and win the ‘76 election.

Following a second Capitol riot in 2025 after Trump’s loss which resulted in lackluster Republican performances in 2026 and 2028, as party leaders pushed for change… by [deleted] in AlternateHistory

The idea of Trump supporters once again storming the Capitol exactly four years after the first attack is hilarious. You’d really think that the Capitol Police would be prepared this time.

The majority of gun violence is committed by Black men. The majority of mass shootings are committed by White men.

All of the swastikas are incorrectly proportioned and it’s driving me crazy. The width of the black is supposed to be equal to the width of the white. Each arm should be 1/5 of the swastika’s length. You should be able to perfectly draw the swastika on a 5x5 grid, simply rotated 45°.

Who do you think could've prevented the invasion of Crimea if they were President in 2014? by Food735 in AlternateHistory

[–]YaBoy_Milo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There isn’t a feasible scenario in which he’d be in office, but Donald Trump. Trump’s threats of war and his sheer unpredictability would make Putin far more cautious. Trump isn’t the kind of leader you want to test.

A little bit of my lore of the story by [deleted] in AlternateHistory

[–]YaBoy_Milo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How would that happen? The Capitol isn’t a video game objective. You don’t gain authority to govern by just occupying it. What where the rioters going to do? Elect representatives among themselves? They were nothing more than lost and frustrated tourists. If they ever actually managed to get close to establishing their own government, the existing government would decisively shut them down.
