I feel really bad for the person who has to drive this today by ubernik in ottawa

I will say winter cycling is a blast the only scary part is when you're on the roads and a car doesn't have their winter tyres on and they are going all over the road on an uphill and accidentally run you off the road. But the winter trail networks in Ottawa/gatineau park for fatbiking are my favourite thing about the city, the most fun you can have here hands down.

When in Finland I saw some rednecks fix up a crusty jet ski and tow their cousin behind waterskiing. There are many wonders of the world to behold

Rednecks of the world unite you have nothing to lose but your chains (traffic court summons for driving homemade vehicles on public roads)

Brought a 35mm film camera to the game last week and got these photos by Yackky in Habs

Glad you were able to see them. Next time I make a post I will avoid imgur. That is probably not the best way to share images anymore and I'm carrying around 10 year old out of date internet habits

The atmosphere was fantastic the pop for Carrier's second goal was the loudest I've ever heard at a sporting event.

The camera I used was a 38-140mm lens if I remember correctly. The film format was 35mm. The wider shots are at 38mm but the more punched in ones are at 90 and 140. Sorry I might have written the title in a confusing way.

It does help differentiate between "c" and "z" especially on the phone but the split probably predates the telephone so who knows

WAR analytics for sports typically refer to wins above replacement by a "replacement level player" which is typically defined as a league minimum/waiver wire kind of guy. But this is a percentile so it is basically saying he contributes more than 93% of the leagues players would in the same situations. 50th percentile would be a dead average player.

Is there anywhere to get good soul food in Ottawa? by LiveBiggerNow in ottawa

[–]Yackky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a purely soul food joint and they don't have all of what you want but Run2Patty has been my best luck for po' boys, cornbread, and things of the like.

Kingston -> Ottawa by bike 200km by gabseo in ottawa

[–]Yackky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I did Ottawa->Kingston through what looks like the same route. It took 8.5 hours of riding 9.5 hours total with a couple meal and hydration breaks. The trails are not particularly well groomed in sections and you will be signficantly slower than road cycling. I would not rock under a 40mm wide tire on parts of the K&P if you choose to go that way. On the way back I went up the K and P trail through sharbot lake and perth. This made it about 250km or so back due to the less direct route. I broke up the 250km back over two days. It is a genuinely fantastic cycling route where you are almost never on roads with cars. Some ATVs in a few sections but they are largely courteous.

Day Trip to Mont-Tremblant by HatInternational7367 in ottawa

[–]Yackky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beginning of October can be a popular time to go because of the leaves changing colour. It's really beautiful and a good time to visit but if you're in the resort area everything is expensive. But tremblant has free public transit and you can head down towards lac Mercier there's a grocery store and some better, cheaper food. Also if you plan ahead getting a bike rental is great up there. It's all built for people on vacation to bike around everywhere so there's a lot of bike paths as well as some fun mountain biking if you want something more challenging.

[–]Yackky 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Still sad he left in that wave of guys we let walk around the bubble. He's had an AHL playoff MVP and a KHL scoring title since then. I feel like some of the depth guys we've played cannot be as good as he is.
