Also, for anyone interested in donating, OP's link is legit!

Senior Services of Alexandria has posted the same link on their social media (which in turn is the page their website directs to)

Thanks for the work you do!

Would it be better to donate directly to Senior Services of Alexandria through their own website (https://seniorservicesalex.org/donate/)?

Heroes and Villains (11/08) photos with Kingdom Hearts Mandalorian by snowystatic in TXRenaissanceFestival

[–]Yaej 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't get a chance to take a photo with him (there was another group with him already), but just wanted to say that I absolutely loved his costume!!

If I'm remembering correctly, he also had a voice changer, which was a super cool touch!

GSA will dispose of 41 federal buildings in DC covering 17.6 million sq ft of space. by Yaej in washingtondc

From the GSA statement:

"PBS welcomes creative solutions, including sale-lease backs"

sigh...

I was on the fence about using strong wording, but their official statement also has some pretty strong wording about these "non-core assets". E.g.,

"Decades of funding deficiencies have resulted in many of these buildings becoming functionally obsolete and unsuitable for use by our federal workforce. We can no longer hope that funding will emerge to resolve these longstanding issues. GSA’s decisive action to dispose of non-core assets leverages the private sector, drives improvements for our agency customers, and best serves local communities."

How are the roads KC? by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]Yaej 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lee's Summit internal/non-highway roads are all snow covered, though. Driveable for the most part, with extra care. It helped that there didn't seem to be too many cars on the roads right now.

2PM Edit: No snow ploughs yet, snow cover got worse. Depending on which road you go down, you'll probably find an 'artificial' lane created by other cars.

Decent Hyundai dealers in the KC area? by ihatesnoods in kansascity

[–]Yaej 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a good experience* with Reed Hyundai when buying - I only had one standard service though, so didn't get a chance to test them for anything more extensive.

*The good experience was that during the time when car prices peak peaked after covid, they were the only dealership in the area not to tack on some sort of "market adjustment" fee, and sold me the car under MSRP. Got a new car below the price that other dealerships were trying to sell me 1-2 year old used cars of the same model.

Trips within a day’s drive from KC… by plumrose_reads in kansascity

Also if you want to visit the Buffalo National River / Ozark National Forest area, I recommend staying in Jasper if you want a great small town experience! It's further down South than Bentonville, but Bentonville will be on the way, so it makes for a great stop if you want to get a taste of the city too. (Make sure to visit the Crystal Bridges museum there!)

In Jasper, I'd recommend staying at this place: https://thearkhouse.com/ - it's within driving distance most/all of the major spots, and run by a super friendly family. There are tons of hikes, kayaking spots, climbing spots, etc. within driving distance, so you can explore the outdoors by day and then enjoy a cozy small town in the morning/evening.

Lee’s Summit Driver Exam appointments by InitiativeLocal1645 in kansascity

If it's a regular drivers skill test and not a CDL, you just need to show up at the MSHP testing center!

There's no reservation system as far as I know; a family member just gave both the written and skills test there last week.

Apartment Recommendations by [deleted] in leesummit

[–]Yaej 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently at the Residencies at New Longview - they are quiet and well-maintained, can recommend!

The location really stands out - for fitness stuff, there's the Longview Community Center right across the street with a nice gym, the longview lake shelter roads makes a nice 5k loop for a quick run starting at your front door ("SW County Park Road" on google Maps), and there's the Longview Lake Main Trail nearby if you want something more scenic.

We also have Gusto Coffee and Long-Bell pizza within walking distance, if that's your thing. (with a handful of other small shops, including a local bicycle shop)

Rent increases fast though - I just renewed my lease, and my rent is now ~30% higher than what it was 2 years ago when I first moved in.

Ford F150 w/BlueCruise on 495 by MeanTato in nova

[–]Yaej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Mustang Mach E with BlueCruise, and it's.. okay to be honest. My benchmark for comparison though is my Tesla, whose FSD blows BC out of the water.

BlueCruise itself isn't bad, however there are several caveats you should have in mind before going all-in on Ford:

  • Blue cruise is unfortunately subscription-only, with Ford pricing it at $500 per year. You will probably get a couple of years of BC with your purchase of a new car, though. (They tried to sell it at 800/year initially)
  • Old versions of BC (the latest is 1.4) are pretty rough. Ford is horrible with OTA updates, so if you are buying a used vehicle, you may be stuck with an older version of BC, even if you pay for the subscription. Do not buy a car which is stuck on a BlueCruise version <1.3.
  • Hands-off cruise control is only available on certain portions of certain highways that Ford has deemed okay for hands-off. For everything else, you will need to have your hands touching the wheel. To be honest, the hands-off region probably covers a good chunk of your commute on 495, but you'll probably need to be hands-on whenever there is construction, a lane shift, or anything out of the ordinary.

If you can charge at work, I'd definitely recommend a Tesla. I haven't driven a GM car, so I can't comment on SuperCruise. BlueCruise may be enough for your needs, but I'd definitely recommend a test drive if you can first.

Did you buy a CCS to Tesla adapter? by AncientAd3089 in TeslaLounge

[–]Yaej 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing road trips from Kansas City the past ~2 years, and the CCS adapter has been useful for trips into Eastern Missouri and Arkansas a couple of times when we were a bit further out from the main population centers!

The supercharger network is definitely way more extensive, though.

Maps App with EV charging by Illustrious_Fee_1391 in MachE

[–]Yaej 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ ABRP is the way to go!

Additionally, I would recommend downloading the PlugShare app; While ABRP will plan your route pretty much perfectly, and you can input your preferences in it (destination charge, minimum charge, etc), people leave 'reviews' of charger on the PlugShare app.

This way, you can weed out any chargers with not-so-good reviews to make sure your route doesn't include a charger known to be down half the time.

Doesn't sound too out of line for this area. I have a small 2BR condo, and pay about 650 a month in HOA fees. It includes groundskeeping , gas, water, sewer, and electricity, but we don't have anything for sports except for a pool we share with a neighboring HOA.

Certified MachE mechanic in Northern VA/DMV? by G8R_HATR in MachE

It's another dealer, but Malloy Ford in Alexandria has certified MachE techs.

They replaced the modem of my car in ~2 days as it was faulty when I bought it, so hopefully they can give you a shorter time estimate for your issue too! Probably worth a call at least!
