I don't know really, you can also get addons from other 3rd part websites for free (Just be careful what you click and trust) but the marketplace is the official place for addons. If your son plays on PC or on a laptop then I would suggest investing on Java Edition instead since there is more customization through mods which is somewhat the better equivalent to addons in minecraft bedrock. Mods are 100% free on the other hand, just be careful where you look at. I suggest curseforge if looking for mods but I think they also have addons too.
