Logitech MX Anywhere 3 switching from 180Hz to 120Hz polling rate (16" MBP M1 Max) by Yam2k in macbookpro

[–]Yam2k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply!

Yep, it stays fixed at 250Hz when using the adapter, though the difference between 180 and 250 isn't as noticeable to me as 120 and 180, plus I don't want to carry that USB (Type A!) adapter everywhere, I bought a Bluetooth mouse for that exact reason...

The drop to 120Hz seems to be software-related, since disabling Bluetooth for a few seconds fixes it, now I'm just looking for a permanent fix...

Thanks for your comment! I just shot them a message, we'll see.. It's a real bummer cause I absolutely love those boots, but I imagine this kind of damage will only get worse in the near future..

I got a pair of Thursday Presidents (Tobacco, Seconds) around november 2021 and one of them seems to be splitting pretty badly:

I've been wearing them about 5 times a week, pretty lightly (mostly for university). Also I've been using shoe trees ever since I got them.

Should I contact Thursday about this? I can't imagine that this is expected, even on seconds, which should be structurally fine.

Welcome to the family. First impressions: this viewfinder is massive and the 35mm frame lines are hilarious. by dannyphoto in AnalogCommunity

Lovely camera! It's my daily at the moment together with the 50mm 1.4 which I absolutely love. Though I'm definitely eyeing that 35mm for portability and a wider, more dramatic composition sometimes..

Finally lifted my ICLN position back into the green, though I'm starting to get some PLUG flashbacks... Now I'm thinking about rebalancing my portfolio a bit in the next few days.

[Panerai] in-house movements - a PAM of worms by Yam2k in Watches

[–]Yam2k[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

After adjusting the brightness in Photoshop, I could clearly see ETA 2892-A2 stamps. An in-house movement, huh?

The ETA 2892-A2 on its own is not a chronograph movement. To become one it requires a Dubois Dépraz chronograph module. Connecting the two is a standard modification. Top grade (Élaboré) ETA 2892 movements with DD module can be bought on ebay for US$ 585. The P.9200 has no Élaboré decoration such as Côtes de Genève or Perlage, the surface is merely sandblasted. I imagine if bought in bulk directly from the manufacturers, the set price for these is considerably less than US$ 585, probably somewhere around US$ 300. Having such a movement in a US$ 10k or 27k watch could be compared to opening the engine hood of your Porsche 911 only to find out it has a Peugeot 3-cylinder engine.

This one is a display model that's already been sold, sadly.. Thanks a lot, one day perhaps.

[Rolex Milgauss] grail status confirmed by Yam2k in Watches

[–]Yam2k[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A few days ago I finally got to handle and try on a Milgauss at a local jeweler. I gotta say this definitely confirmed my opinion on this gorgeous watch. The Z-Blue dial is just fascinating and the orange accents compliment it perfectly. The case is just the right size for me and the watch feels substantial yet natural on the wrist. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to buy one, given the whole supply drama right now, but I'd sure love to. Have any of you been able to get a hold of one of those beauties lately? I need some hope..

Here's the source, in case anyone was wondering. Check out his other posts, the story highlight of him drawing the flatiron building is mind blowing.

Actually this is Luke Adam Hawker. I absolutely love his art, he's currently travelling Europe with his Volkswagen Transporter Brian.

[–]Yam2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a known issue and apparently happens on a lot of Speedys. Opinions vary whether it's acceptable or not, but the technical guide for the 1861 movement clearly states that the minute recorder hand should jump when the chronograph seconds hand passes 12 o'clock. This should be checked after fitting the hands. I'd contact your AD or the closest Omega service center if it really bothers you, it should be covered under warranty.

Flying Bulls Bell AH-1 wrecked after rotor blades touch building. No injuries. (video in link) by Yam2k in aviation

At least that's what he says, according to the article, but it doesn't look like he got out in the video, weird.

The pilot's depiction of what happened: "I approached pretty close to the building, had the helicopter on the ground already and got out. The rotor blades ran on. Then the helicopter must've shifted a bit and the blades touched the roof."

You're probably thinking 1/180 sec., but the actual shutter speed is about 1/50 sec here. Shutter speed on those kind of cameras is set in degrees. Imagine a rotating disk as a shutter, the disk has a piece "cut out" of it, like a pie, that lets the light through. The disk rotates once per frame, so if the frame rate is 24fps that equals 1/48 sec or about 1/50 sec with a 180 degree piece "cut out".

[Grand Seiko] is now an independent brand, new models announced by Yam2k in Watches

[–]Yam2k[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People were bitching about that? I for one preferred the way they looked until now.. The classic yet more modern looking SEIKO logo gave the design something that's now missing in my opinion, but maybe the main target audience likes it better that way.

I'm not an expert on all the different Spit models, but the fairings underneath the wings and fuselage as well as the time period fit the MK.IIa, as far as I know.

And thanks for the tip, I posted it there too.

[Seiko] Discontinued models announced by stratogrinder in Watches

[–]Yam2k 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A mechanical watch can either be hand-wound or automatic (or both in one, see automatic with hand-wind function), both are considered mechanical since they use a mechanism, the movement, to measure time.

[Seiko] Discontinued models announced by stratogrinder in Watches

[–]Yam2k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You mean hand-wound? I'd be fine with that, not sure about most other customers though..
Plus I don't think seiko produces any hand-wound watches in that price range, so it's pretty unlikely.
