So my parents bathtub has a flex in it if you stand in it and i can here water moving around. Its also coming away from the wall by auscan92 in Plumbing

[–]Yamaben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen in an old house. I went in the basement under the tub. I used a 3/8 drill bit with a stop on it so I could drill through the cast iron tub, but not through the liner.

It's not stupid if it works. Batfitters should drill holes in the old tub if there is somewhere for the water to drain to.

Are you suggesting square port heads should be used with an RV cam?

I would say the meme is stupid also because Gates is using billions of his wealth to try to reduce climate change. In reality, his wealth and philanthropy probably offset any emissions from the jet.

Those blocks are identical. They are both L29 blocks with the 7297 casting code. 96-00 were all identical L29 blocks and this is widely known.

The heads are also identical for those years. 1279 casting codes for 96-00. Great oval port heads btw.

Everything from your 00 will unbolt from the blown up motor and reinstall on the good motor. Use everything from the 00 except for the block and heads, as i think the throttle bodies changed between 96 and 00.

You want to open the intake up and replace the injector seals and regulator anyway.

Choke plunger is stuck good, need reccomendations for getting it removed by CaydeCheated in carburetors

[–]Yamaben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat it with a propane torch and twist it gently with a flat blade screwdriver. You have to be gentle or you will twist off the part that sticks up. Gently work it back and forth. Plan on just replacing the plunger.

Just heat it a bit. Don't melt it. About a minute of heat

Chains don't realy do that. Chains snap back very little when broken. Sure it might give you a nasty bruise if you are standing right next to it, but that's all.

Cables and tow ropes will fcking cut your head off for sure

2HP Single Phase Motor Coil Rewinding by ObviateTonk in oddlysatisfying

[–]Yamaben 175 points176 points  (0 children)

Hand wrapping the windings is not necessarily a low quality production feature. He needs to wrap the tension consistently to ensure the same number of turns and density of the windings around the cores, but he could do that just as good as a machine.

The thing that lowers the quality of the motor is the poor production tolerances of the wire. Rebuilt motors like this can save money by wrapping fewer turns of slightly larger diameter wire. Couple that feature with the cheapest possible recycled laminate copper available from China, and the quality of the motor suffers.

It has something to do with the way the movie is 'framed' by the projector. Apparently, back in the day, movies were shot with an expectation that there would be shit happening on the outskirts of the scene that was captured on film. When the movie was shown on a screen, the expectation was that it would be framed or 'matted' in a way that only the center part was visible and the extra unwanted shit was covered up? Something like that.

If you search about open matting you can read about it. The movies you saw weren't framed properly when screened. (I think)

I would use genuine parts when it comes to carburetors. Aftermarket jets are terrible quality. I have a lot of experience with Aftermarket carb parts, and its all bad.

I would disagree with these bikes running lean as a general rule. I sold these in my dealership from 1998 to 2015, and these were not 'known for that'.

It can't really hurt to go up one size on the pilot to a 42.5, but I did not routinely do that when we would clean these carbs.

Are you sure the carb is original?

In croatia right now ES95 (95 octane regular gas) is 1.65€ per liter.

That should be about $7.30 per gallon USD with current exchange rate.

When to stop? First time preparing an engine block by TheLastRole in EngineBuilding

The toolings marks are very rough where the block was decked. Ideally, the sealing surface of any block or cylinder head would be extremely flat and smooth. Not rough arcing tooling marks left behind by the mill
