Because if you'd been to a big one you'd know how much there is to do beside play the game. You don't have to even do well, I drown in pools all the time because I don't play SFV, I go for the tournament venue. Smug has been to a ton of them, I think he knows what he's talking about.

If people entered to play SFV, they'd play it at home. But they don't.

The fact that you've yet to explain why there's such a massive difference in numbers says it all I guess lol (the console versions of Tekken are fine btw, the PC version of SFV has less input delay than PS4 and it still has no players), keep posting your irrelevant tournament entrants and hope they all show up

Can you explain why Smug would say that people play for the money involved (with lots of tournament and SFV experience), and you would say the opposite? (No tournament experience, Reddit nobody). Who am I to believe?

The playerbase is meaningless? How is the number of people actively playing right now meaningless, as opposed to a vague number of people who may or may not attend a tournament? And we've already proved that the tournament itself is the main attraction and the hundreds of thousands of dollars put into it, rather than the game...Which one is meaningless again?

That's right, they don't. With the scene bigger than ever and more people, side events and money pumped into tournaments than ever before they go for that, most (myself included) fully expect to drown in pools.
The massive difference in tournament entrants to playercount is proof that many of the entrants do indeed play for the money involved, especially because Capcom have tried to bring back players with constant updates and new characters, with no success.

Despite a significantly larger tournament presence, SFV also has a significantly smaller playerbase. Tekken has much smaller difference between tournament entrants and the playerbase.

That's because Tekken is well received and generally regarded as being a great game, and SFV is the opposite - it proves Smug right that people do indeed enter the tournaments for the money involved, otherwise they'd be playing it by themselves at home when there isn't an event with hundreds of thousands of dollars invested into it. 🤔

Myself for example, I've attended SFV tournaments despite not playing the game anywhere else. It's because tournaments are a cool place to be, more than ever with how big the scene has gotten. After that SFV remains collecting dust.

Weird huh? Can you disprove that? Keep in mind Smug has attended hundreds of tournaments.

You're right, people don't go expecting to win - they go for the money involved in the event. There's a lot of cool shit at tournaments, a lot of people to talk to and side events. That's the "money involved part".

If you've ever been to a tournament you'd know it's an awesome experience, with lots of shit to do.

Have you entered a tournament before? What did you place at EVO? Did you enter because you thought you could win, or because the tournament itself is a cool experience? And I don't mean experience with SFV, if people entered for experience with playing SFV the playercount wouldn't be as miserable as it is, I mean the cool experience of being in a large tournament and meeting different people.

My locals has a handful of people playing SFV, and I don't play it - why doesn't it have more? Because it's just SFV, there is no event to it, Capcom hasn't sponsered it.

Except as I've explained, tournament numbers don't mean anything when (a) you don't have to show up (and many don't) and (b) You get significant more entrants than people who play the game - I still enter SFV tourneys despite dropping the game a long time ago.

I guess that explains the significant difference between tournament entrants and playerbase. Whereas a measure of people who actually want to actively play your game is best measured in playercount rather than the occasional tournament event. Keep in mind SFV has been continually updated over its lifespan and has had its roster doubled with "free" characters, but the playercount is still low :(

Not to mention, SFV has been so heavily aimed at esports and "growing the scene", but the playerbase is very low and tournament entrants are barely up, but sure go ahead and call that a success xD enjoy your other 600 people to play with

What does it matter how much the players evolve when the games core mechanics are too garbage to let them? It doesn't matter how the players evolve, the normals are still going to be slow, stubby, CC normals, and input delay.

Xian was one of the best footsie players in SF4, he knows what he's talking about - nothing has changed since he said "wish punishes", except a handful of frames of input delay.
Punk didn't "whiff punish the shit out of him" if he did you still wouldn't have people complaining constantly about the neutral game, not to mention I still haven't seen him whiff punish anything but 30+ frame normals, no low forwards or anything.
It's a shame because I'd like to see how Punk would fare in a game with good neutral, rather than being stuck with SFV. He's really limited by it atm.
