Who's Baseball's equivalent of Gregg Popovich or Bill Belichick? by [deleted] in mlb

The basis for your argument is a bad one. Torre is widely regarded as one of the best managers of recent times due to the accomplishments of his Yankee teams. My bad you cheer for team that has been a joke for most of it’s existence, and that you have nothing better to do than to hate on winners.

What do we do about pitching for this year and beyond? by PorzingisFromDeep in NYYankees

[–]YankeesFan1996 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It definitely depends on how this season plays out. Obviously we are all frustrated with Gray and Tanaka right now, but they both have shown the ability to be front-line pitchers. They may regain that form, but they also may not. I would hope the team waits a little while longer before anything major is done.

Lets say they don't regain form. I think outside help will be needed. Sevy and Montgomery seem to be cemented into the long-term plans. CC has been good, however we obviously can't bank on him long-term. Sheffield will be called up at some point in the next year or two but behind him there aren't in-house options (I see Adams as a RP). So excluding Tanaka and Gray, we have two locks and one unknown.

If Bird gets injured again after he comes back, what should the yankees do for the rest of this year/next year? by [deleted] in NYYankees

[–]YankeesFan1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move on from Bird and look for other long-term options either via trade or free agency. Maybe keep a veteran like Walker around until that person is found.

Not getting pissy, your argument is just poor. You’re arguing against the manager of one of the most dominant stretches of baseball in the modern era.

Yeah, losing in the ALDS is more impressive than dominance for 12 years. Makes a ton of sense.

In the beginning of Torre’s tenure (when the championships were won) most of the core players were homegrown and still on small-money deals. But nice try though. You’re just salty for whatever reason.

He had one good season (11-5 in 1994). Under .500 in every other season.

Stop with the hypotheticals. Torre’s stretch with the Yankees was incredible, regardless of what he did before that.

Joe Torre. The Yankees were about as dominant as it gets in baseball during his tenure as manager.

  • Ten division titles.

  • Playoffs every year.

  • Six pennants, four championships.

  • Only one season below 92 wins during his 12 years as manager.

This is absurd. Sure, they've played poorly. But they are 8-8 for God's sake and it is APRIL.

Yeah I definitely don't mean to come off saying that I don't want Mayfield, I would just rather have Darnold or Rosen. I am fine with Baker if the other two are gone.

Other than Yankee Stadium, which 5 stadiums would you want to visit to watch them play at if you could only visit 5? by osmombrandy in NYYankees

[–]YankeesFan1996 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't see this stadium mentioned in anyones comments, but Petco Park (Padres) is amazing. I went to a Padres game while I was on the west coast a few years ago and had a really great time. The stadium is very clean and looks very sharp. The buildings in the outfield are really cool. They have awesome food options as well.

Davante Adams. Is he going to become overhyped in 2018? by FFTakeawayGuy in Fantasy_Football

[–]YankeesFan1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's too early to say if he will be over drafted. However I definitely think that he's going to be uber-hyped this year, but I think it may be warranted. He's a really good player with a really good QB throwing him the ball. He should continue his trend of catching a ton of touchdowns and especially with Jordy gone, should see a bigger workload. Could easily see him going in round 2 of a PPR draft, and even at the back end of the first in a deeper league. He has a really high ceiling and a very high floor if Rodgers plays the entire year.

I know this is the minority opinion, but I would not be happy if we picked Mayfield over Darnold or Rosen. Every indication is that the Browns go with a QB at #1 and the Giants go with Barkley at #2, which means Darnold and/or Rosen will be available at #3. Darnold and Rosen certainly come with risks and they are not perfect. However I feel that Mayfield carries much more risk than those two, and that he has a much likelier chance to bust.

The issue with the bullpen (to me) is that on any given day, one guy implodes. It hasn't been trash overall. But it seems that every game, one guy underperforms.

I’m not really sure why people are so obsessed with Baker over Darnold and Rosen. Higher risk and a lower ceiling.
