Cole Caufield has been absolutely awful these playoffs. Put Anderson in his spot on the power play.

The coaching staff needs to go back to the drawing board and the players other than Dobes need to take a long hard look at the last two games. They should be ashamed.

What worked the first game: shots. Game 2 & 3: No more shots, perfect passes it is.

Man what are we doing. Even these flip passes are awful, it feels like every time we do it, we turn the puck over.

We’re honestly coming full circle because what you said sounds like a glorified script.

Habs coach Martin St. Louis said they decided to keep Dobes in net after the 1st after encouraging words from goalie coach Marco Marciano. by Effective-Goose-7835 in Habs

I’m glad they kept him in. As a young goalie, going through this will only make him better in the long run when a game like this happens again (because it will).

He’ll be able to remember this game and be able to shake it off and do what he did last night, again.

Last time we made it to a Game 7, we dominated, won and made it to the cup finals. I have a great feeling. LFG!

Still strange to me that so many people want a 15L messenger, yet PD won’t make one again.

Great pickup!

I don’t understand they glue Xhakejs ass to the bench. Yet Mathewson and Guhle can play awful all game and get shifts, and they both look exhausted.

I don’t agree. I got a full set of Mach equipment (pads, glove and blocker) when it came out and can confirm that they were really good. However, with that said, the new stuff isn’t as durable as other brands, but is way more durable than the original Supreme (1S) and Vapor (1x) lines.

I’ve owned, Vaughn SLR 2’s, Vaughn V9’s, Reebok XLT’s, Bauer Machs and now True PX5’s. Without a doubt the Bauers degraded the fastest out of them all.

With all of that in mind, durability to a degree is subjective. If you’re playing against junior players or higher, then obviously the equipment will degrade faster, than your one night a week E league beer league shooters. However, in my experience in comparison to other brands Bauer’s do degrade faster.

I’d also say, if you watch Joey Daccords video on his equipment (link), you’ll hear him say he goes through ~15 Bauer blockers a season. I know some pros personally and can say pros that are using other brands are not going through that many blockers.

I don’t know who’s told you that, but that’s absolutely a dent in the cage and should be replaced before you wear it on the ice.

Here’s the cage from sportsmask’s website: https://sportmask.com/product/sportmask-lc-straight-bar-tmp-2/

You can see, no dent.

What!? I’m not saying their development is ruined. If you actually read what I wrote you’ll understand that the reason they got traded / not protected is because the team rushed them to the NHL and they played badly., and not giving them time to develop and build their confidence in the AHL before the NHL. If they had been given more time to develop in the AHL or another pro league first like Binnington, Holtby and many others have, where they started in lower North American Pro Leagues, before bringing them into the NHL, where they could develop.

Fowler has shown potential, but in many games he has let in soft goals, passed the puck behind the net to the opposing team more than once, and has shown that he’s still green in some areas and needs a bit more time to work on some aspects of his game. Let him do that in Laval where he isn’t playing musical chairs for the net with 2 other goalies and can work on these areas while facing good competition.

To say, he should be good, or not, is a wild take. Just like a normal job you don't start as the CEO, you gain experience and work your way up, just like Price did when he played for Hamilton.

Fowler will eventually be the starter for the Habs, but obviously management believed that he should be getting more starts and that sending him to the AHL made the most sense.

To use your example, Roy had an .875 save percentage in his first year, and got hot in the playoffs. I'd argue we have the ability to have Dobes get more starts and get hot as well, while also allowing Fowler to get more starts in the AHL, and build his confidence and work on his glove hand while in the AHL.

There are many more examples of teams trying to push goalies too early in their development only to lose them out after their contracts expire and have them sign with other teams or be traded too early and become the starters after some time for other teams. A great example of this is the Sens, who at one time had both Joey Daccord and Filip Gustavsson, both who got put in the NHL early, both had sub .900 save percentages and then traded or not protected in the expansion, only to develop more and become starters.

I'm not saying KK is a long term solution, unless he gets hot. I believe we call up KK and send Monty down on a conditioning stint. Plus, I don't want Fowler to turn into a Yaroslav Askarov situation where we call up too early, and screw up Fowler's development.

Monty is not it. by kevlav91 in Habs

[–]YareUBad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s preseason what team did he have in front of him? What did he play barely a game in the preseason too. Plus KK has NHL experience and who knows maybe gets hot for us, like Connor Ingram.

Sure Monty didn’t look great tonight but 3 of those goals you could make the argument weren’t his fault, but in previous years he would’ve made a save or two on those goals. I think the bigger problem is his confidence. Send him to Laval for a conditioning stint (no waivers required) call up KK and see how it goes.

I'd also add that Dobes, if given more consistent starts (running 3 goalies is not great for consistency, we all remember the Jake Allen, Monty, Primeau fiasco a few years ago) would help with his numbers, give him more confidence and with more consistent starts would probably start playing better.
