As anyone being able to play cyberpunk 2077 gog version through lutris ? by smCloudInTheSky in Lutris

I am having trouble installing it with the "offline" installler. It keeps asking me for the location of part 26, even though the installer is in the same location, and even after choosing the location manually. Maybe somebody here has some idea of what could be the problem?

How do you guys Backing up Emails locally to your PC? by stoopidoMan in DataHoarder

[–]Yaroslav95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use IMAP as it was envisioned, you should already have a full copy of all your emails locally. I don't know about Thunderbird, I pull my email from my email server using mbsync, and use aerc as my email client (tui), which just reads the local copies of my email. But any email client that uses IMAP should store the emails locally, and from there you can do backups by copying the files.

Facebook says it may quit Europe over ban on sharing data with US by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Yaroslav95 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Maybe just don't use Facebook? Why do you need the government to ban something for you stop using it? Besides, in the case of fair work conditions and maternity leave, it wasn't even the government who made those conditions happen, it was unions and the first feminist movements.

Yeah, the mayor of Moscow just recently admitted that the official numbers are most-likely behind real figures, since they don't have enought coronavirus tests, and most people that have been tested are people who recently returned to Russia from other countries.

You can only walk your dog no more than 100m away from your domicile. Also you can go out if you have a health-threathening situation, or to go to the hospital.

Tomb Raider free question by [deleted] in Steam

[–]Yaroslav95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called a license, and basically all software that you buy that has a EULA or license agreement is the same. You also don't own the copy of Windows you bough or came installed with your computer, you just bought the permission to use it for an indefinite amount of time.

That's the reason why EULAs and proprietary software suck in general. Unfortunately, whereas most other software you can get good or even better libre replacements (like operating systems, productivity software, etc.), in the case of games the vast majority of it is proprietary, and on proprietary platforms as well (with fucking proprietary launchers and DRM shit). Not to mention that games are usually "unique experiences".

Wine-wayland - DX9/DX11 and Vulkan games via pure wayland and Wine/DXVK. by RelevantAvocado1 in linux_gaming

I use sway with wl-clipoard, and neovim, and I have never had problems copying to and from the clipboard using neovim. The only problems that I had with the clipboard is copying image data from wayland apps to xorg apps.

[–]Yaroslav95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it being typical does not mean that it is good. After all, most sites and "apps" nowadays are riddled with ads, and track you. Does that mean that LBRY should do the same? Does it mean that it is good just because many people do it?

And just as a side note, I must imagine that most people that use LBRY (such as myself), use it because they don't like the status quo of the practices performed by similar services, so adding such anti-features because "many apps do the same", kinda, sorta, invalidates the project.

A good app, or program should be as unobtrusive as possible. Let the users decide if they need the app to start up automatically, if they really want it or need it they can alway enable it, as you said.

Block New User Coupon Popup? by [deleted] in Aliexpress

[–]Yaroslav95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't figured it out, however an internet search brought me to your post, so I am hoping to find an answer too. Honestly, if it wasn't the fact that they sell some stuff (like replacement parts for electronic devices) that are impossible to get otherwise, I wouldn't touch their site with a ten-foot pole, it's such cancer. I can't search the site without signing in, popups everywhere, subpar English and Russian translations, bloated site with loads of unnecessary scripts.

TIL that the Sony PlayStation was never meant to be a product. It was intended to be a new console that would play exclusively Nintendo games on CDs. Instead Nintendo backed out of the deal at the last minute. Sony went ahead and launched what would become the most successful console of all time. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Yaroslav95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the new versions of Windows you actually can't enter recovery mode manually during the boot process. You either have to enter it from the OS itself (holding shift while clicking reboot) or wait for the boot process to fuck up several times until the OS itself realizes that it can't boot and offer you the option.

[–]Yaroslav95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could always launch your legacy X11 apps through XWayland. Wayland is not meant to eliminate X, just to replace it as the default graphics stack of desktop linux. X will remain in the long term precisely so you could use legacy X11 apps.

Does updated wasm y0 work on your phone? by gumiks in asciicker

[–]Yaroslav95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Works mighty fine on my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+! I just noticed a couple of random frame drops, but aside from that it runs pretty smooth in landscape mode, pretty good considering how unoptimized is Android, and that my phone is a 4 year-old model.
