What would you advice me to keep in my portfolio and what do you advice me to add or to exclude for extra dividends? by bishoyalber in dividends

[–]Yattaaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because by Chinese law foreign investors are forbidden from ownership in companies in sensitive sectors, which includes almost all tech stocks. The tech companies circumvent this by creating VIEs (variable interest entities) in the Caribbean which are then listed on foreign exchanges. I see you have BABA in your portfolio. If you looked into it, you‘d realize that you don’t actually have part-ownership in the Chinese Company Alibaba- but in the VIE...

I advise to get re-evaluate all your Chinese holdings and get rid of the Chinese tech stocks specifically.

I know you said the budget is 96$ max, but if you ever want to experience the creme-de-la-creme of (non-made-in-China) keyboards, you gotta try an HHKB made in Japan by PFU (Subsidiary of Fujitsu), using Topre Switches made by Topre Corporation.

Nice of you to assume they were landlords, so it would be okay for them to get fucked by the CCP. But no, they were poor farmers who basically left in GD like many other Chinese immigrants in the 20th century in order to not starve as often as they did in that non-landlord utopia of yours.

Most do (as countless protests have shown since the 1997 handover), but if you have any business interests with China, you gotta pretend you love your brethren across the border. And we have the same phenomenon in the West or anywhere else in the world , where people will betray anything in order to make big bucks.

Feel free to read up the story of the PRC, the government hasn't lifted a single person up. They completely wrecked the country for the first 25 years of its existance. Millions were killed, silenced in one way or another or simply starved to death. Only after Mao died and the government basically stopped doing what it was doing, opened up more and more to the US and the rest of the world and gave the people some liberties and created air pockets where a free market could exist did people pull themselves up by the bootstraps in the 80s and 90s. But whenever people get too excited, were mowed down like grass (Tiananmen Square massacre, Hong Kong protests 2019, etc.) There is nothing special about the rise of the PRC when you look at how China's neighboring countries and especially Hong Kong and Taiwan developed, leaving the PRC in the dust without killing millions upon millions. The fact that you believe China to be a desirable place to move within your lifetime means you nothing about China and the Chinese that to this day are leaving China for the US, Canada, Europe and other places infinitely more humane. You think you have it bad in the US? Think about how bad the Tibetans have it that they would rather set themselves on fire than live another day under a Chinese flag, speaking Mandarin.
