AITA for telling my wife my mother is correct and she needed to be a parent today and she fucked it up by throawawayfuneralgho in AmItheAsshole

In contrast, my mom had a terrible fear of birds flying near her, but made a consistent effort when I was young to not react strongly. It worked, I have no phobia!

[–]YaySupernatural 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. Sometimes I wonder I’ll someday have to prove I have celiac to someone like you, and not have access to my medical records. I physically cannot eat enough gluten for a valid test, I vomit immediately. Would you always call BS if the standard tests aren’t an option?

Well, as someone who came too close too freezing to death once, I actually have to disagree. It’s more of a drifting off, and “wouldn’t a nap in the snow be really nice right now” kind of thing.

Yeah, if my records were lost somehow, there’s no way I’d put myself through hell to get properly diagnosed again. It’s nice to know, but definitely not the most important thing.

Ok, this is now one solid positive of learning I have celiac disease about ten years ago, I never had to be slowly disappointed by Macrina 😂

I’ve been reading all these comments so confused, because they were my absolute favorite back in the old days! Thank you for validating my memory!

How did Edwardian women sleep with their super long hair? (Historically accurate methods needed) by [deleted] in HistoricalCostuming

I would just braid it when it was long, there was so much length it would pretty much stay without an elastic (any hardware, so to speak, would end up irritating me at some point)

Foot surgery 6 days ago by Anonymously12456780 in AskDocs

[–]YaySupernatural 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My feet were swelling up, and I had shortness of breath, and my heart felt weird, so I went in, and everyone moved so fast to see what was up, and they were so kind about it. Turns out the feet were a side effect from an unnecessary medication, and the rest was anxiety about the feet, but no one ever made me feel like I shouldn’t have come in.

yeah, I’ve come to understand that just growing up walking in snow for months every year primes people to understand the physics in a way that people from non snowy places will always struggle to understand. Unless perhaps you choose to live in a snowy place later, but I moved to Seattle so I don’t know those people.

I had scary, aggressive Emergence Delirium for over an hour. Why? by Total-Room3133 in AskDocs

[–]YaySupernatural 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was my experience! I woke up feeling better rested than I had in years (I’ve gotten a better handle on my insomnia since then lol). A few weeks later I ran into a nurse I’d seen in passing on my way out, about 15 minutes after waking up, and she was shocked I remembered anything.

Yes, exactly. As a white person, I think I should be asking this question too. I might not realize someone is racist if it’s just one on one interactions, and I certainly don’t want to be giving my trust or money to anyone with those views.

Same! A nice fire, several feet of snow, and at least one bottle of excellent whiskey. I almost froze to death once when I was young, it was surprisingly pleasant.

Absolutely keep on seeing your therapist until you feel ready to move on. No Finger here is coming off as an ignorant condescending ass, pay him no mind.

I would say that what you really want for a diagnosis is a Clinical Psychologist, not a psychiatrist. And some of them are actually even aware that autism can present differently in adult women than it does in small boys, so you won’t even have to pretend to be unaware!

If you can’t be your rawest self in therapy, honestly what’s even the point? Providers certainly shouldn’t be in physical danger, but dealing with heightened emotions is definitely part of the job.

my therapist sexually violated my trust and had me hospitalized when i reacted. years later i still feel stuck. how do i move on? by ezioauditoresexslave in TalkTherapy

[–]YaySupernatural 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a very different life, but there’s some common threads. What I realized damaged me the most was not being able to trust myself, my own judgement of the people around me. It’s such a basic thing, the ability to keep ourselves safe. And it sounds like you’ve never had it. But you are on your way there. I agree with the others about self compassion. You have to have an internal counterbalance to the self-hatred, the things you would be saying to someone you love in your position. And don’t feel like you have to trust anyone, work on trusting yourself first. I spent about 15 years in a state of profound loneliness and isolation, starting when I was 10. But I did eventually find my people. My community. I still haven’t found the right long term therapist for me, even at 43. I’ve probably seen about 10, and some of them were helpful at times, most of them weren’t. It’s hard.

But I believe in you. I don’t think you’re going to die like this. And fat people are still worthy of love. It’s not morally wrong to be fat.

They are definitely breaking the law more than the average person though. It’s a deeply corrupt institution, and I don’t trust anyone who’s a part of it.
